Today, the nominations for the 72nd Emmy Awards were announced, with cast and crew from various Star Wars projects selected for their outstanding achievements. Star Wars’ first live action TV show, The Mandalorian, received a total of 15 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. Other nominations include Outstanding Guest Actor for Giancarlo Esposito, who appeared as Moff Gideon in Chapters 7 and 8 respectively, Outstanding Cinematography for Chapter 7: The Reckoning for DoP’s Greig Fraser and Baz Iodine, and Outstanding Visual Effects. The Mandalorian’s Outstanding Drama Series nomination surprised many, but it’s easy to see why Emmy voters opted to choose the Disney+ show, given the critical acclaim and excitement surrounding the project.
Meanwhile, the Disney Channel’s Star Wars Resistance, an animated show that follows Kaz Xiono and fellow Resistance fighters during the events of the Sequel Trilogy, was nominated for Outstanding Children’s Program.

Fans will have to wait a little while longer to see how many awards these Star Wars shows will take home. The Emmys Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 20th on ABC.
