Deadpool 3, the follow up to Ryan Reynolds’ first two R-rated comedy superhero films, has secured Shawn Levy as director of the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy is in negotiations to join the MCU for the first time, after previously working on other popular franchises like Netflix’s Stranger Things. He is also no stranger to Deadpool himself, having worked with Ryan Reynolds on several occasions, including Free Guy and, most recently, The Adam Project.
Per THR, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are set to return to write the script for the third outing, having previously penned the screenplay for the first two Deadpool movies. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin of Bobs Burgers previously worked on the script for this third movie, but are understood to be no longer attached to the project.
As of now, Ryan Reynolds is the only cast member confirmed to return for this sequel, but it seems likely that fan favorites Cable and Domino, played by Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, will come back in some capacity. If this is the case, it will mark Brolin’s second role in the MCU, having played the villainous Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and three Avengers films. Beetz is also no stranger to the comic book genre as she appeared in 2019’s Joker.
There is currently no release date attached to Deadpool 3.
