March has been a big month for Star Wars and, in particular, fans of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The official trailer was released for the Ewan McGregor led series, as was a magazine cover story in Entertainment Weekly’s last print edition. As part of this cover story, fans got extra looks at Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan and even Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader.
Given that this is arguably the most anticipated Star Wars project at the moment, some fans have already begun the discussion of a season 2 for Obi-Wan Kenobi. As part of EW’s wide ranging interviews with the cast and crew of the series, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy commented on the possibility of a season 2:
“It was definitely conceived as a limited series, and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. The approach has always been that it is one full story…It’s certainly something we talk about, mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?”

From Kennedy’s quotes, it’s clear that the Lucasfilm president is being coy as to not give too much away about the Obi-Wan series or future Star Wars projects in general. However, it’s also clear that nothing is ruled out in regards to a potential season 2, and it might ultimately depend on the reception to the first outing and if a follow-up makes logical sense.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to release on May 25.
