Andrew Garfield Says There’s ‘No Update’ On The Possibility Of The Amazing Spider-Man 3

By Josh Bate

Andrew Garfield’s return as Spider-Man in 2021’s No Way Home was not exactly a surprise to many fans of the franchise and the hero, as rumors had been swirling for over a year prior to the film’s release of a multiverse event, and brief footage of the English actor on the set of the new movie was even leaked online.

Still, Garfield’s return was epic and emotional, with the actor proving to be one of the highlights of the film, high praise given the presence of the other two Spider-Man actors, Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire, alongside villains like Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock. Garfield’s Peter reunion with Electro and, in particular, his epic entrance at the halfway mark of the film went down as two of the best moments of No Way Home.

Because of this, fans have taken to social media to ask Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3, a surprising turn of events given that it wasn’t too long ago that audiences seemed unhappy with Garfield’s movies and his portrayal of the character. Still, fans have been quite vocal about this, and Garfield was recently asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter if there was any movement on the possible project.

“No update from me! No one’s going to believe anything I say ever again, that’s my problem.”

While the actor seems open to reprising his role once again, it remains unclear if Sony are interested or if Marvel Studios would approve given they would seemingly want to prioritize Tom Holland’s future as Spider-Man. Garfield also references his months long campaign of denying any involvement in No Way Home before going on to indeed appear in the film. Despite even leaked footage in high quality of the actor on the set, which ended up in the movie with finished VFX, Garfield was told by Sony and Marvel Studios to continue to lie in order to keep his moments hidden.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is out on VOD now.
