As the DCEU continues to transition into a new and unique direction, one that will reportedly begin in next year’s The Flash, new characters like Batgirl and Supergirl are being thrusted into the spotlight as they’re set to take center stage in the franchise’s future.
As Robert Pattinson’s Batman is situated within his own universe, Michael Keaton will be the DCEU’s Caped Crusader, reprising his iconic role from the late 80’s and early 90’s. Keaton will not get his own solo film, but instead will serve as a supporting character to heroes like Batgirl.

As Batgirl is set to have a large role in the franchise going forward, there are already questions as to whether or not there will be a sequel to the upcoming HBO Max exclusive. Star Leslie Grace addressed this in a recent interview with Variety, as well as discussing the first film.
“We got to see this first one first. But there’s definitely some talks about what it could be. I’ve seen some of what we’ve shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it’s insane. We’ve already been talking about where do we take this from here because there’s so much that happens in this film. There are a lot of different themes in the plot that we touch on. It’s not just the action. There’s a love story. There’s this father-daughter relationship. There’s looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white and seeing the color and the spectrum between things.”
Batgirl was announced to release in 2022, but given The Flash’s delay till next year it seems that the HBO Max film will be the next DC title to move.
