Hello there! It’s most certainly the month of one Obi-Wan Kenobi as the iconic Jedi features front and center of a new comic series, novel and highly anticipated Disney+ show. Those releases, in addition to the 20th anniversary of Attack of the Clones and the long awaited Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, make for an exciting time for Star Wars fans this month. Below includes a list and description of upcoming Star Wars projects in the month of May. It is important to note all of these release dates are subject to change.
May 3 – The Bad Batch: Hunted!
Relive the events of the episode “Bounty Lost” from the first season of The Bad Batch with this new young readers graphic novel in the Screen Comix series.
May 3 – The Mandalorian: Grogu’s Journey
If you’re like us and can’t get enough of cute Grogu content, then look no further than this new children’s storybook from Grace Baranowski and Printer’s Row bringing the events of The Mandalorian to life in a unique, fun way.
May 3 – The Mandalorian: The Rescue
The terrific season 2 finale of The Mandalorian is also adapted into a new young readers graphic novel in the Screen Comix series this month.
May 3 – The Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi
May is truly the month of Obi-Wan Kenobi. In addition to a new novel, comic, and TV show, Obi-Wan also features front and center of a new book part of the Little Golden Books series for young readers.
May 3 – Star Wars Insider 210
The newest issue of Star Wars Insider features an original short story starring General Grievous, a look back at the top 10 moments of The Mandalorian, a 20th anniversary celebration for Attack of the Clones, and more!
May 3 – Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan, Vol. 2
The second collected volume of Leia Organa: Ordeal of the Princess, a manga that adapting Claudia Gray’s Leia, Princess of Alderaan novel, releases this month.
May 3 – Star Wars Legends: The Empire Omnibus Vol. 1
Revisit Dark Horse Comics’ The Empire series with this new Omnibus hardcover.
May 3 – Star Wars: The Mini Book of Lightsabers
Insight Editions’ Lightsaber Collection was a massive hit when it was released recently, and now fans can dive into a mini version of the book!
May 4 – Obi-Wan 1
Christopher Cantwell’s new Obi-Wan comic debuts this month. The publisher’s summary for the first issue is as follows: “Fast approaches the ultimate destiny of one of the Jedi’s most renowned masters! As he spends his final days in the remote deserts of Tatooine, Obi-Wan Kenobi takes time to reflect on – and record – key moments of a heroic life long-lived. May 4 – Star Wars (2020) 23
Also hitting comic stores this month is the continuation of Charles Soule’s mainline series. The publisher’s summary for the upcoming 23rd issue is as follows: “THE DAWN ALLIANCE – PART 2 OF 3 “The Last Division” The fate of THE REBEL ALLIANCE FLEET is at stake, as its last remaining divisions face off in battle against the brutal tactics of COMMANDER ELLIAN ZAHRA and her crew on the TARKIN’S WILL. May 4 – Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett
Take an insightful behind the scenes look at The Book of Boba Fett with this newest documentary streaming on Disney+.
May 10 – Brotherhood
“That business on Cato Neimoidia doesn’t, doesn’t count.” Mike Chen’s excellent novel Brotherhood explores the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin with newfound depth and finally goes into what that business on Cato Neimoidia entailed. Stay tuned for our review on Tuesday May 3rd and an article about easter eggs, trivia facts, and references from the novel on Tuesday May 10th!
May 10 – Star Wars: I Am Your Father
Dan Zehr and Amy Richau team up with DK Publishing for a new Star Wars-themed parental advice book.
May 11 – Halcyon Legacy 3
Ethan Sacks’ comic series aligning with the Galactic Starcruiser experience continues this month.
May 17 – Star Wars Jedi Pocket Expert
DK will also release a new reference book focusing on all of the Jedi of the Star Wars universe.
May 18 – Doctor Aphra (2020) 20
If you’re not already reading Alyssa Wong’s Doctor Aphra series, please do, because it’s amazing. The 20th issue hits comic stores this month. The publisher’s summary is as follows: “FROM HERE TO ETERNITY! DOCTOR APHRA and SANA STARROS confront KHO PHON FARRUS at the heart of an ARCHAEOLOGICAL RUIN! But they’re all about to learn the horrifying truth behind the SPARK ETERNAL…and ONLY ONE will escape unscathed!”
May 18 – Han Solo & Chewbacca 2
Marc Guggenheim’s exciting new Han and Chewie comic for Marvel moves forward this month. The publisher’s summary for the upcoming second issue is as follows: “THE HEIST IS ON! HAN, CHEWIE and GREEDO have to pull off an impossible heist for JABBA THE HUTT! But who can Han trust? SPOILER: Han breaks into his target’s safe, but you won’t believe what’s inside!”
May 24 – LEGO Star Wars Awesome Vehicles
Fresh off the new LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga video game, DK will release a hardcover reference book focusing on LEGO versions of starships and other vehicles this month. And it includes a neat Poe minifigure!
May 24 – Star Wars: The High Republic: The Edge of Balance, Vol. 2
After the exciting first volume, The Edge of Balance, a manga series set during the High Republic era, continues to unfold. The publisher’s summary for the new volume is as follows: “Jedi Knight Lily Tora-Asi learns the Drengir attack on Banchii was not an isolated event but part of a coordinated attack orchestrated by the Nihil. Master Arkoff is on orders from the Jedi Council to help Master Stellan Gios’s investigation, leaving Lily in charge of rebuilding Banchii and restoring hope to the community. May 26-29 – Celebration Anaheim
The latest Star Wars Celebration was held in Chicago in April 2019, making this the first Star Wars-centric convention in over three years. With new looks at The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Bad Batch, and more, stay tuned to The Holofiles for full coverage of the event.
May 27 – Obi-Wan Kenobi – Episodes 1 and 2
As if May couldn’t get any better, the return of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi occurs this month with the two-episode premiere of the new Disney+ series.
