After a first look was revealed at Star Wars Celebration in May, the newest season of The Mandalorian received an update from none other than Greef Karga himself.
Carl Weathers, known for his role as Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, recently spoke to Empire about what’s in store for the third season of Din Djarin and Grogu:
Weathers confirmed that he will direct an episode of The Mandalorian’s third season after he stepped into the director’s chair with Chapter 12: The Siege. Regarding his new directorial outing in Season 3, Weathers said, “Oh there was a bit more [action], I think, in this one…[It’s] a little different [to ‘The Siege’], because a lot of it had a lot more scope. But this one also had many, many different kinds of stories within the story, and that’s really nice.”
Weathers’ suggestion of “many different kind of stories within the story” seems to be somewhat of a departure from previous seasons of The Mandalorian, which almost exclusively centered on its titular character featuring in almost every scene.
The Mandalorian has allowed Weathers to explore his love for directing. “I love directing. It’s my passion,” Weathers said. “This show gives you so much opportunity to deal with all these different characters. Even though they’re different episodes, it’s not like typical episodic television – it’s not a whodunnit, it’s not a dark comedy, it’s not a procedural. It’s so many different things, and it’s action-adventure on top of that. As a director, you get a chance to exercise your talent, and also your ability to deliver in those different areas.”
The exclusive look revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2022 showed off a fancy new look for Greef Karga. “Amazing, isn’t it?” he said. “We have such a wonderful wardrobe designer who puts all of that together. The wardrobe is majestic to say the least. Greef wears it well!…It really speaks to how he has matriculated, how he has grown in stature and ambition. And obviously on screen it looks fantastic. It adds so much.”
As if anticipation for the new season of The Mandalorian couldn’t be greater, Carl Weathers’ words make the wait to February 2023 all the more difficult.
