Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Film To Begin Production In Early 2023

By Josh Bate

Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film is set to go into production in early 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Waititi’s latest film, Thor: Love and Thunder, arrived today in theaters. The writer/director, who helmed Thor: Ragnarok, is also known for his Academy Award winning work on Jojo Rabbit, which he also acted in as a satirical version of Adolf Hitler.

Waititi’s Star Wars film has been a consistent topic on the press tour for the latest Marvel flick, with the New Zealander saying that he’s still trying to figure out the story. Waititi even made a suggestion that his venture in a galaxy far, far away wasn’t a sure thing, saying that his finalized idea would determine “if it would happen”.

The reveal of a start date for production is a significant development for Star Wars movies as the franchise has largely existed on Disney+ after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker. Rogue Squadron is another live action feature that was announced, but script issues has left the film in uncertain territory.
