Five Predictions for ‘Ahsoka’

By George Bate & Josh Reilly B.

The highly anticipated Ahsoka series is just two months away and speculation as to what the show will be about and who it will feature are rampant. Here are five predictions we have for Ahsoka:

1. A Return to the World Between Worlds

The World Between Worlds is one of the wackier concepts in Star Wars, and is about as close to time travel as one can get in a galaxy far, far away. This ethereal realm was critical to Ahsoka’s survival in Star Wars Rebels, so it’s feasible that, given her knowledge of the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka returns.

Perhaps more strikingly is the different imagery in the first trailer for Ahsoka that resembles the World Between Worlds.

2. Live-Action Clone Wars Flashbacks

Fans were treated to a brilliant flashback of Obi-Wan and Anakin prior to Attack of the Clones in Part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which opens the door to other flashbacks in and around the same era. Dave Filoni spearheaded the acclaimed series The Clone Wars and has already brought a number of elements from the series to live-action (look no further than Ahsoka herself). But can Filoni pass up on an opportunity to bring Clone Wars imagery to life in live-action? Ewan McGregor has already returned to the fold and Hayden Christensen is just about confirmed to appear in some capacity. Don’t be surprised if Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka are shown in a Clone Wars flashback in the next few months.

3. Set up for Heir to the Empire

The HoloFiles and Star Wars Holocron have been voicing a theory for three years now that an adaptation (of sorts) of Timothy Zahn’s classic Star Wars novel is in the works. This theory was all but confirmed with the Ahsoka trailer’s reveal of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the name-drop of ‘Heir to the Empire.’

A plot as gargantuan as Heir to the Empire will likely necessitate a bigger platform than the Ahsoka series, which means it may be the MandoVerse crossover film that Dave Filoni was confirmed to direct at Star Wars Celebration Europe. But, in order to successfully build up to it, Filoni is likely to continue laying the groundwork for Thrawn’s return.

4. Evil Ezra

Ahsoka will seemingly focus on the titular character’s search for Ezra Bridger, who went missing with Thrawn in the series finale of Star Wars Rebels. But will the Ezra we see in Ahsoka be the same Ezra we knew in Rebels, especially after some time with the villainous Thrawn? Maybe Thrawn has corrupted Ezra, or maybe Ezra will be the new Jorus / Joruus C’baoth of canon. For those unfamiliar, Joruus C’baoth was a clone of the Jedi Master Jorus C’baoth in Heir to the Empire.

5. Mando & Grogu

Similar to how Mando and Grogu showed up in The Book of Boba Fett, it’s a safe bet to assume everyone’s favorite father and son duo will feature in Ahsoka. Grogu and Ahsoka have a connection through their shared traumatic history in the Jedi Order, while Ahsoka also has a past with the Mandalorians as seen in The Clone Wars.

Stay tuned for extensive coverage of Ahsoka, which premieres August 23 on Disney+.
