Natalie Portman Reflects on Alternate Revenge of the Sith and Her Time in Star Wars

By George Bate & Josh Bate

In promoting her new film May December, Natalie Portman was asked about Star Wars and reflected on her role as Padme Amidala in a galaxy far, far away.

When asked if there was ever a version of Revenge of the Sith in which Padme killed Anakin, Natalie Portman replied, “Oh, that’s cool. No [laughs]. Cool, but no.”

Portman also commented, “It was such a big part of my life to be part of Star Wars for so many years. I made the first one when I was 16 years old and [Revenge of the Sith] I did when I was 22. It was really wild to do green screen. Felt like a very pure form of acting actually. It’s almost like when you’re a kid and you pretend your refrigerator box is your rocket ship, you know? You have to really create the world inside of you, but around you as well.”

Natalie Portman recently returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: Love and Thunder. With Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen returning to the fold in new Star Wars projects, it’s possible that Portman may play Padme again (or a handmaiden) in a future project.
