New Disney Parks Collectible Reveals First Look at Post-Episode IX Rey

By George & Josh Bate

Rey Holocron

Chronologically, the furthest event depicted in the Star Wars universe was Rey triumphantly proclaiming herself as Rey Skywalker at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That was, however, until recently as a new item released at Disney Parks reveals details about Rey after post-Episode IX.

A new Holocron is available in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney World. Guests can purchase certain kyber crystals that, when inserted into the Holocron, generate dialogue from various Star Wars characters. If you purchase the yellow kyber crystal (consistent with the lightsaber Rey ignites at the end of The Rise of Skywalker), the voice of none other than Rey Skywalker speaks. Based on the context of Rey’s dialogue, it is clear that she is speaking after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, making this new Holocron the chronologically latest piece of storytelling from a galaxy far, far away.

We at The HoloFiles and Star Wars Holocron got our hands on this new Holocron and kyber crystal. Check out Rey’s quotes below….

Rey Holocron

“I came from something evil. Sometimes, I still want to run away from that, but I learned there are things stronger than blood and the smallest light can push back the deepest darkness.”

“Maybe you’ve heard. I’m all the Jedi.”

“When I met Luke Skywalker, I offered him his lightsaber. And he tossed it away. But the Force doesn’t always make things easy. So you keep trying. That’s all you can do.”

“Luke Skywalker was my master. So was his sister Leia. And her son Ben gave his life for me. I took the Skywalker name to honor them and their legacy.”

“I’ve studied the sacred texts of the Jedi. Do you know what the most important pages are? It’s the blank ones left at the end. Because those ancient teachers knew those lessons weren’t finished and never could be.”

“Ben was right about letting go of the past. But not about killing it. My task is to make something new. Not by killing the past, but by building on all that’s good in it.”

“I grew up in the desert and yet every night I dreamed of an island. A tiny dot in an endless sea. I saw it so clearly, but I never imagined it might be real. Real and waiting for me.”

“I’m Rey. Rey Skywalker.”

“The Force is so much bigger than any creed, any philosophy, anything that can fit in a bunch of books. Master Skywalker taught me that in his first lesson on Ahch-To. I knew right away I’d never forget it. That I’d never be the same.”

“The early Jedi sought to bind the galaxy’s wounds. They looked at what was broken and saw how to fix it. When I read that I thought, ‘Well, I’m good at that already.’”

Let’s break down a few of the more interesting quotes from Rey….

Rey Holocron

First, it’s nice to see the product stick to the ending of The Rise of Skywalker and emphasize once again that her name now is Rey Skywalker. Although Rey taking on the Skywalker name was met with criticism from some, it was a creative decision from JJ Abrams and company that is consistent with the saga’s theme of found family.

For the first time, Rey comments on Ben Solo’s sacrifice for her on Exegol. Rey says, “Luke Skywalker was my master. So was his sister Leia. And her son Ben gave his life for me. I took the Skywalker name to honor them and their legacy.” Rey taking the Skywalker name is not just a way to honor Luke and Leia, but also to honor Ben Solo, who eventually made the right decision to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Anakin and turn away from the dark side.

One line in particular is of interest given that it may offer some clue as to the upcoming New Jedi Order movie. “My task is to make something new,” Rey says. “Not by killing the past, but by building on all that’s good in it.” At Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Daisy Ridley arrived on stage to a standing ovation as Lucasfilm announced a new Star Wars film that will be set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker and focus on Rey training a new generation of Jedi. The plot of this upcoming movie is hinted at in this Rey quote from the new Holocron. Seemingly, she will develop a new Jedi Order by building on what is good and discarding what is bad. This suggests Rey acknowledges the Jedi Order was not always right (most blatantly evident with their hubris and hypocrisy before Order 66) and that she will only bring forth the best parts of the Order.

In a similar vein, Rey has a quote that reflects Lucasfilm’s decision to continue Rey’s story in a new movie.  “I’ve studied the sacred texts of the Jedi,” Rey states. “Do you know what the most important pages are? It’s the blank ones left at the end. Because those ancient teachers knew those lessons weren’t finished and never could be.” This quote implies that a story is never over. Despite The Rise of Skywalker rounding out a nine-film saga, there’s more stories to be told and more lessons to be learned.

Also announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 was a movie focusing on the dawn of the Jedi directed by James Mangold. Very little is known about the earliest Jedi, so any mention of them always peaks our interest. Here, Rey comments, “The early Jedi sought to bind the galaxy’s wounds.” Rey’s quote here implies that the Jedi Order came about as a means to heal “the galaxy’s wounds.” Some conflict disrupted the galaxy and the Jedi Order was born out of a desire to resolve this conflict. Rey elaborates, “They looked at what was broken and saw how to fix it.”

Rey’s journey continues in an unlikely form with this new Disney Parks collectible. As we eagerly anticipate the New Jedi Order movie that will see Master Rey teach new Jedi, we’re left to reflect on some of what Rey has to say after the events of The Rise of Skywalker.
