Manny Jacinto Teases More Darth Plagueis in Possible ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2

By George & Josh Bate

Many Star Wars‘ fans hearts were broken several months ago when The Acolyte was cancelled, but now there is a glimmer of hope that we may one day see a continuation of this story.

Speaking at FanExpo San Francisco (as reported by Collider), The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto answered a question about Qimir’s connection to Darth Plagueis and what we could expect if Season 2 is ever made. Jacinto said:

“Oh man, that’s a tough question. They’re not [connected], they’re definitely not. Oh man, how do I answer that? What time is it? [laughs] There are definitely a lot of different theories, like who he is, because we never actually know his true identity. Is Qimir’s name actually Qimir? We definitely wanted to explore it. There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show, but I just can’t say, because, you know, we could come back. I don’t want to spoil anything, or give anybody any false hope, but I would just say there was a lot more to explore, for sure.”

This response from Jacinto features a number of interesting points. For starters, Jacinto confirms here that Season 2 and even Season 3 of The Acolyte were at some point discussed. If they can come to fruition, it seems like Darth Plagueis would have played a more prominent role.

Perhaps the most exciting element of Jacinto’s response is his hesitation about saying too much about their plans for subsequent seasons of The Acolyte, in case the show is eventually revived one day. Jacinto makes sure to not “give anybody any false hope,” but shows have certainly come back from cancellation before and The Acolyte may fall in that category one day.

Even if Season 2 of The Acolyte is never made, there could still be more exploration of the story of Qimir and Darth Plagueis in other stories. Several The Acolyte tie-in novels have already been announced and a one-shot comic following Kelnacca the Wookiee Jedi was released earlier this year, suggesting that Qimir and Plagueis’ journey could continue in a different medium. There’s also a chance that these characters play roles in an entirely different Star Wars series, one that more centrally focuses on the rise of the Sith leading up to the events of The Phantom Menace. Something like that would likely draw inspiration from James Luceno’s acclaimed novel Darth Plagueis and would offer a chance for some of The Acolyte‘s most intriguing elements live to see another day.

In the meantime, Star Wars fans can look out for the new series Skeleton Crew, which premieres December 2 on Disney+. Stay tuned to The HoloFiles and Star Wars Holocron for weekly reviews, spoiler analyses, and easter egg breakdowns of the new Star Wars series!
