This week, The Mandalorian and Grogu star Sigourney Weaver revealed new details about the upcoming Star Wars film in an interview with GamesRadar+. Here’s what we learned from Weaver….
Time jump and Grogu grows up
In the interview, Weaver stated, “I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie. And he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.”
Weaver’s note that Grogu has “grown up a little bit” is interesting for a number of reasons. For starters, it suggests a somewhat sizable time jump between The Mandalorian Season 3 and the new Star Wars movie given the slow rate at which Grogu’s species ages.
Her comments also create speculation as to what a “grown up” Grogu looks like and what this means for him to grow up. Is Grogu talking now? Will he be bigger? We know Grogu won’t become like Yoda or Yaddle overnight, but we could see him progress beyond being a toddler in the movie.

Weaver plays a good guy (seemingly)
Regarding who she plays in The Mandalorian and Grogu, Weaver said, “I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.”
Weaver’s comments suggest that her character is the one to instigate the plot of The Mandalorian and Grogu, sending the titular characters on their mission. When originally announced to be in the cast, we and many others assumed Weaver would play a villain in the movie given her status as a prominent actress and the lack of a clear villain in the movie following Gideon’s death in Season 3. Weaver suggests this is not the case though.
Taken with rumors that the film will follow Din Djarin and Grogu as they hunt after Rotta the Hutt (voiced by The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White), it seems likely that Weaver is the one who commissions Mando and Grogu to go on the mission and hunt Rotta down. Season 3 concluded with Din agreeing to take on missions for the New Republic, which, coupled with Weaver’s statement about her being “in a position of authority,” could suggest that Weaver plays a New Republic politician interested in capturing Rotta. Or, Weaver may play someone more in a Greef Karga role, who hires Din Djarin to capture the bounty.
