Fans of a galaxy far, far away have long yearned to set their eyes on the original, unedited version of George Lucas’ 1977 classic. And, this June, a select few will have the chance to do so.
George Lucas’ original theatrical cut of Star Wars will be screened publicly for the first time in decades at the BFI’s Film on Film Festival. The film will open the 2025 festival on June 12 and wil be presented in a dye transfer IB Technicolor print that was first made for the original U.K. release of the film and has since been preserved by the BFI National Archive.
Attendees to the screening will also be able to view rare material from the original Star Wars, including annotations of the script, the original continuity script, on-set Polaroids, and deleted scenes.
