Five Reveals from the New Star Wars Galaxy Map

By George & Josh Bate

The official Star Wars website recently released a restored, interactive map of the Star Wars galaxy packed full of hidden details. Here are five things we learned from analyzing the new map…..

The Rakata and Dawn of the Jedi

The galaxy map features Rakata Prime, the homeworld of the Rakata, in square G11. In Legends, the Rakata were a destructive alien species who were created hyperdrive technology. The Rakata used their technological advancements to conquer species throughout the galaxy.

Why is the inclusion of Rakata Prime on the galaxy map important? Well, Andor Season 2 recently confirmed that the Rakatan conquest of the galaxy occurred 25,000 years prior to the events of the series. This date aligns with the beginning of the Jedi Order, which is set to be chronicled in James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie. One of Andor‘s writers, Beau Willimon, is co-writing Dawn of the Jedi with Mangold, further suggesting that the Rakata could play a role in future canon stories.

Rakata Prime’s location on the map is also intriguing. The planet is located close to Ahch-To, which is the site of the very first Jedi Temple and is likely to feature in the Dawn of the Jedi movie. We may be seeing the Rakatan on the big screen sooner than we think….

The Bad Batch’s search for Omega becomes more heartbreaking

As spotted by the terrific Molly Brizzell, the galaxy map shows just how heartbreakingly close Clone Force 99 were to Omega as they searched the galaxy for her in Season 3.

Pabu, the settlement of the Bad Batch, is located in grid L3. Wayland, where Omega is held captive, is located in grid N7. Their proximity suggests that the Bad Batch made their way all around the galaxy in search for their beloved sister, who was unknowingly so close to home.

Exegol and Thrawn’s proximity

The galaxy map reveals that Csilla, the homeworld of Thrawn and the Chiss people, is close to Exegol, the secret Sith world Palpatine resides on in The Rise of Skywalker.

It’s interesting to hypothesize if the Chiss ever went to Exegol….

The crew of Skeleton Crew are how close to Maul?!

As spotted by Twitter/X user Tangible Pepper, At Attin, the hidden home of the main characters of Skeleton Crew, is right next to Dathomir, the home of Darth Maul and Asajj Ventress.

Given the planets’ obvious differences (one being a suburban haven and the other being a literal hellscape), it is particularly surprising to see how close At Attin and Dathomir are to one another.

Ahsoka Season 1 concludes with Thrawn making his way to Dathomir. With At Attin so close, does this mean we could see some of the Skeleton Crew return in Season 2?

The Sith’s reign was widespread

The Acolyte: Visual Guide recently termed the Sith as “conquerors” of the galaxy, something the new map helps visualize. The Sith world Moraband (aka Korriban) is located in grid R5. Meanwhile, the Amaxine Space Station is located in grid J19. For those unfamiliar with the High Republic publishing initative, the Sith once sealed the deadly species the Drengir on Amaxine Space Station.

Collectively, this information demonstrates just how far-reaching the Sith’s reach across the galaxy was.
