Ahead of the release of his new animated film Fixed on Netflix, the creator of the original Star Wars: Clone Wars explored the lasting legacy of one of the series’ most fascinating characters and hinted that he would be interested in translating the character to live-action.
In 2003, Genndy Tartakovsky introduced the world to Asajj Ventress in his Clone Wars series, a character that would go on to have a massive imprint on Star Wars canon over 20 years later. Recently, Ventress made a comeback with a guest appearance in The Bad Batch Season 3 before playing a central role in Tales of the Underworld. The latter series has generated great speculation about a possible Asajj Ventress-focused series and whether the character could make her way into live-action. In an interview with Inverse, Tartakovsky was asked about his interest in returning to Star Wars to bring Ventress into live-action. Here’s what he said….
“If she becomes live action, super cool. And, if they ask me to do it, that would be an interesting conversation.”
The mere prospect of Tartakovsky returning to Star Wars is a fascinating one, especially considering the lingering influence his Star Wars animated series has on the franchise all these years later. Tartakovsky brought a different tone, style, and pacing to a galaxy far, far away that was probably ahead of its time. But now, in a day and age in which Star Wars projects are more diverse than ever (e.g., from Visions to Andor and beyond), Tartakovsky’s reintroduction to the franchise could be a welcomed breath of fresh air.
In the interview with Inverse, Tartakovsky also commented on George Lucas’ difficulty trusting other creatives with Star Wars and how Clone Wars helped Lucas overcome this apprehension. Here’s what he said….
“Because it was a success, it kind of opened the door for George [Lucas] to be okay with other people doing Star Wars. Because before that, nobody really could do it, and he didn’t trust anybody. So, we were successful, and it almost opened the door to what it is now, with so many projects that other people are working on. We did it first in a way, and we didn’t mess it up.”
