A preview of The Mandalorian: Visual Guide by Pablo Hidalgo offers more specific details on the timeline of the show that confirm a connection to the Clone Wars.
The initial description for Din Djarin in the upcoming release reads as follows….
“His real name is Din Djarin, and a tragic day during the Clone Wars on his homeworld of Aq Vetina still haunts him. It was the day his parents were killed by battle droid fire; the day he nearly met the same fate; the day Mandalorians came rocketing in to rescue him; the day he became a foundling (an orphan rescued from a warzone).”
This seemingly innocuous quote from The Mandalorian: Visual Guide confirms that Din Djarin was orphaned and saved by Mandalorians during the Clone Wars, which occurred between 22 BBY and 19 BBY. Previously, it was known that the droids who killed his parents were Clone Wars-era, but this is the first official confirmation we’ve got that this occurred during the actual Clone Wars.
This information also sheds light on Din Djarin’s age. Aidan Bertola, who played young Din Djarin in the Season 1 flashbacks, was approximately 10 years old when he filmed his scenes for the series. Let’s say then that Din was 10 years old during these Clone Wars flashbacks. That means he was born around 32 BBY – 29 BBY. If he was born in 32 BBY, this means Din was born during the events of The Phantom Menace. In other terms, Din Djarin was born in the same year that Darth Maul killed Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan killed Darth Maul. All of this is speculation for now, but it’s always interesting to see where certain characters, such as Din Djarin, were at when major events in a galaxy far, far away were occurring.
