With Star Wars: Starfighter officially beginning production, tons of details about the new film have been revealed. Embedded within the official press release from Lucasfilm is a small, yet important detail that reveals Ryan Gosling earns a franchise-first achievement.
Ryan Gosling is officially listed as an executive producer on Star Wars: Starfighter. This makes him the first actor to ever star in and executive produce a Star Wars movie. Previously, Ewan McGregor and Diego Luna starred in and executive produced Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor Season 2 respectively, but these projects were Disney+ series and not movies.
What does this mean for Star Wars: Starfighter? Well, the title ‘executive producer’ is used variably across different productions. Sometimes, a person earns an executive producer credit essentially in name only, contributing little to the final product. Other times, however, an executive producer can play a more sizable role behind the scenes and can be involved in the creative process (e.g., Kevin Feige in the MCU). It is currently unclear what Gosling’s role as executive producer will entail, although, at minimum, it suggests the Canadian actor will play a more sizable role in the production than the average Star Wars actor.
