John Boyega Reveals What He Would Do If He Remade the ‘Star Wars’ Sequels

By George & Josh Bate

At Florida Supercon 2025 (via The Popverse), Star Wars actor John Boyega candidly spoke about what he would if he were given the chance to remake the sequel trilogy.

“It would be mad,” said the Finn actor, “First of all, we’re not getting rid of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, all these people. We’re not doing that. The first thing we’re going to do is fulfill their story, fulfill their legacy. We’re going to make a good moment of handing on the baton.”

Boyega continued, “Our new will not be OP’d [overpowered] in these movies. They won’t just grab stuff and know what to do with it. No. You’ve got to struggle like every other character in this franchise. I’d do that.”

Boyega went further to say he would want a Star Wars story to draw on The Old Republic and The Force Unleashed, two beloved projects now considered non-canon. “I’d look to the Old Republic stories,” the actor said. “And see what we can add to the continuation of that. I would definitely want to see Force Unleashed stories in there. I would try to expand the Star Wars universe as much as possible while respecting the lore. If we’re expanding the lore, we have to do it in within the respective boundaries that stay true.”

On a final note, Boyega took a swing at The Last Jedi‘s handling of Luke. “But Luke Skywalker wouldn’t be disappearing on a rock,” said Boyega, “Hell no. Standing there and he’s, like, a projector? I would want to give those characters way more way more.”

While we certainly like the idea of a future Star Wars story drawing on The Old Republic and The Force Unleashed, and we would love to see John Boyega return as Finn in the New Jedi Order movie or Simon Kinberg’s films, we don’t quite agree with his stance on the sequels.

For starters, we don’t think any of the new characters in the sequel trilogy (we assume he’s referring to Rey) are “overpowered.” Star Wars has long established that the Force runs stronger in some and, given The Rise of Skywalker‘s reveal that she is a descendent of Palpatine, it makes sense that she is as powerful as she is.

We also don’t see eye-to-eye with Boyega on The Last Jedi. Arguably the most divisive Star Wars movie ever made, Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII remains a topic of conversation eight years after it hit theaters. While the film certainly has its flaws (namely with the Canto Bight storyline involving Finn), its handling of Luke is not one of them, in our opinion. The ending of The Last Jedi is as epic and subversive as Star Wars gets. Nothing will beat the first time we were in the theater as we saw that entire ending on Crait unfold.
