The third volume of Star Wars: Visions is right around the corner, making it the perfect time to preview the exciting stories that are to come. In this preview, you’ll find out everything we know about the different shorts that comprise Volume 3, what you should/read ahead of the new episodes, and more.
Check out the official trailer for Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 below….

When does Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 release?
All nine shorts of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 debut October 29, 2025 on Disney+.
What are the shorts of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3?
Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 includes 9 shorts, three of which are sequels to acclaimed shorts from Volume 1.
“The Duel: Payback”
Once again created by anime studio Kamikaze Douga, “The Duel: Payback” serve as the sequel to “The Duel” from Volume 1.
The popular short starred The Ronin, a former Sith Lord who is drawn into conflict with a bandit leader. Blending the aesthetic of Star Wars with feudal Japan, “The Duel” instantly won over audiences, spawning a novel by Emma Mieko Candon, two prequel one-shot comics from Marvel Comics, and an amazing Hasbro Black Series figure. With Volume 3, the story of The Ronin will continue to unfold.

“The Duel: Payback” director Takanobu Mizuno shed some light on the new short. “Since [“The Duel”], the Ronin has continued to pursue and defeat numerous Sith,” Mizuno explained. “This time, a Jedi Grand Master stands in his way.”
Some concept art from “The Duel: Payback” was shown off at Star Wars Celebration Japan earlier this year. Check it out below.

A trailer for Visions Volume 3 (which you can see below) showcases some shots from “The Duel: Payback” and preview a new Sith Lord with a unique lightsaber that rivals the craziness of anything we’ve seen from a lightsaber before.

“The Lost Ones”

Kinema Citrus Co. crafted a beautiful, slow-paced, graceful, and intimate short with “The Village Bride” in Visions Volume 1 and will soon return to this world with a sequel called “The Lost Ones.”
F, the lead character of “The Village Bride,” will return in “The Lost Ones.” The story will seemingly follow F as she visits a new village marked by the mysterious disappearances of children.

Director Hitoshi Haga also confirmed that the short will explore what it is like for family members of Order 66 victims to cope with loss.
“The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope”

Arguably the most shocking of the shorts from Vision 1, featuring a plot twist only Star Wars could pull off, was “The Ninth Jedi” from Production I.G. Now, in Volume 3, fans will get to see the continuation of this story with “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope.”
This sequel will once again star Lah Kara, this time as she tries to find her father and fulfill her destiny as the titular ninth Jedi.
Unlike “The Ninth Jedi,” the sequel will be directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, who takes over directing duties from Kenji Kamiyama.
Of note, after Visions: Volume 3 releases, a new series that continues the story of “The Ninth Jedi” will arrive on Disney+.
“Yuko’s Treasure”

Also hailing from Kinema Citrus Co., “Yuko’s Treasure” adopts a decidedly different tone than “The Lost Ones.”
The short takes place in Mos Eisley and follows an orphan named Yuko, who is raised by a droid named Billy. Reminiscent of a teddy bear, Billy has an odd design compared to other Star Wars droids. He’s also the first droid (to our knowledge) to have a microwave oven in his stomach.

“The Smuggler”

Masahiko Otsuka revealed that the short from Trigger is “a completely new story and not a continuation” about a rogue thief akin to Han Solo.
The location “The Smuggler” takes place on was designed to resemble nothing like we have on Earth. Check out some designs below.

“The Bounty Hunters”
It wouldn’t be Star Wars without bounty hunters, a more seedy corner of the galaxy that Junichi Yamamoto and Wit Studio will explore in the new Visions Volume 3 short “The Bounty Hunters.”
“The Bounty Hunters” will focus on a duo of (you guessed it) bounty hunters. They can be seen in concept art and stills from the trailer below.

“The Song of Four Wings”

Project Studio Q and director Hiroyasu Kobayashi will explore the more mechanical corner of the Star Wars galaxy in a new short.
“The Song of Four Wings” features a princess named Frane and focuses on droids and machines, including AT-ATs. The trailer for Volume 3 below shows AT-ATs emerging from underneath ice.
“The Bird of Paradise”
“The Bird of Paradise” from Polygon Pictures is another short coming as part of Volume 3.
The short follows Nakime, a mysterious character who also has a dark side counterpart.

“Black”
Perhaps the most unique of all the Visions Volume 3 shorts is “Black.” The short from David Production focuses on stormtroopers, a “side character” of the Star Wars universe that the team wanted to propel into the spotlight.

A special preview of “Black” was shown at Anime NYC and showcased some of the experimental imagery and music of the short. The art work is unique and almost has a stuttering, stop-motion quality to it. The footage we saw at Celebration Japan was set to lively 1940s-ish music that further made “Black” standout.
What Should I Watch/Read Ahead of Visions Volume 3?
Visions: Volume 1 – “The Duel”

“The Duel” is worth a rewatch regardless of Volume 3’s release, but, as Volume 3 features a sequel to “The Duel,” this short is absolutely necessary viewing. It’s been four years since Volume 1’s release and, if you haven’t revisited it since, now is a perfect time to watch “The Duel” again.
Ronin: A Visions Novel

The first 25 pages of this novel from Emma Mieko Candon retell the story of “The Duel,” but the proceeding 300 pages tell an original story further expanding the world of The Ronin. Check out our review of Ronin: A Visions Novel here.
Visions 1

Serving as a prequel to the animated short, this one-shot comic written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki can also enhance your watch of Visions Volume 3. The story features the same art style that made “The Duel” so unique and gives Star Wars and Manga fans alike more of the Star Wars/Feudal Japan fusion we’ve come to love.
Visions: Volume 1 – The Ninth Jedi”

A sequel to “The Ninth Jedi” will be included in Volume 3, making this amazing short from Volume 1 necessary viewing. Not only that – an entire series continuing the story of “The Ninth Jedi” is coming soon, essentially making this initial short a pilot for the forthcoming series. Check it out now if you haven’t already.
Visions: Volume 1 – “The Village Bride”

“The Lost Ones” in Volume 3 is a direct follow-up to “The Village Bride,” one of the more understated installments of Star Wars: Visions. Make sure to rewatch “The Village Bride” ahead of Volume 3 to be all caught up before “The Lost Ones.”
