On this day five years ago, Kathleen Kennedy announced a number of new Lucasfilm titles during Disney Investor Day 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing and the world was pretty dour, but the release of The Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney+ and Kennedy’s array of announcements gave many fans a spark of light in an otherwise dark time. Now, five years later, we’re looking back at each of the 13 titles announced by Kennedy to see what their status is.
Obi-Wan Kenobi – RELEASED & COMPLETE (FOR NOW?)
Although officially announced during Disney’s D23 event in 2019, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on this day five years ago. Kennedy billed the series as featuring “the rematch of the century” as Vader and Kenobi would go head-to-head for the first time in over a decade. She also announced that Deborah Chow, who ahd helmed episodes of The Mandalorian, would direct all six episodes of the series.
Of course, Obi-Wan Kenobi was released in 2022. Since then, Lucasfilm has been quiet about the possibility of a Season 2, although star and executive producer Ewan McGregor has been far from quiet. Earlier in 2025, McGregor said at Fan Expo Canada, “I don’t know their plans right now…but I’m sure at some point.” A month later, McGregor joked, “Somebody give me a job. Come on, Disney. We need Season 2 for goodness sakes. What are waiting for?”
Indeed, what are we waiting for? It would be interesting for a Season 2 to explore a more grounded story set mainly (or evenly exclusively) on Tatooine. The story could also explore the trauma of losing Satine and more about their relationship through flashbacks.
Rogue Squadron – (POSSIBLY STILL) IN-DEVELOPMENT
Fresh off the success of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins proudly announced the development of a new Star Wars film titled Rogue Squadron. Unfortunatley, five years later, and the film has yet to arrive.
Throughout 2021, Jenkins spoke publicly about working with Lucasfilm on the movie, but, in November 2021, The Hollywood Reporter published an article stating that Jenkins’ other commitments had delayed the production. This resulted in the film officially being taken off of Lucasfilm’s production schedule.
In a May 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, Kathleen Kennedy said that Rogue Squadron had been sidelined by Lucasfilm. Seven months later, Jenkins conirmed that she had officially left the project but, after discussion with Lucasfilm, agreed to return once her current project ws complete. As of December 2022, a deal was in place to make the film, although Jenkins expressed uncertainity about whether the film would come to fruition.
In March 2023, Variety reported Rogue Squadron was scrapped. During Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, three new Star Wars movies were announced, but there was no word of Rogue Squadron.
Out of nowhere, in March 2023, Jenkins revealed on the Talking Pictures podcast that she had written a new draft of the film a year prior and that she would “absolutely be happy” directing the film.
In 2025, rumors emerged that suggested Rogue Squadron was no longer in development as a film but, rather, now as a Disney+ television series. This rumors remain unverified, however, and the incoming release of Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter cast doubt on whether we’ll ever see Rogue Squadron on the big screen.
Andor – RELEASED & COMPLETED
Perhaps the most resounding success story of the Disney-era of Star Wars stories, twenty-four episodes of Andor have premiered on Disney+ and been met with overwhelming critical and fan acclaim.
Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie – (PROBABLY) CANCELED
We’ve heard very little about Taika Waiiti’s Star Wars movie after its announcement in December 2020. Waititi confirmed he was still writing the movie in 2023. However, on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, he stated that the film was no longer in active development.
In 2025 though, Kennedy told Deadline that she was waiting for another script from Waititi. When asked by Screenrant at Celebration Japan in April 2025, Kennedy reiterated that the film was still in development and that Tony McNamara was brought on as a new co-writer.
Although the latest update from Kennedy appears encouraging, we seriously doubt this film will ever come to fruition. Waititi has seemingly moved on to other projects and, after the reception to Thor: Love and Thunder, has fallen out of grace with many.
The Bad Batch – RELEASED & COMPLETED
Three complete seasons of Star Wars: The Bad Batch have been released. The show is officially complete, wrapping up with a touching conclusion that saw Hunter and Omega after a time-jump. Although we’ve speculated about a follow-up series, it is unlikely that this show (if it were to come to fruition) would be labeled as a direct continuation of The Bad Batch.
Lando – IN-DEVELOPMENT
Originally announced as a series, Lando was since reworked as a feature film, which Lucasfilm confirmed in 2023. In 2024, co-writer Justin Simien confirmed that the version he had been working on was shelved, but in September of that year Glover expressed excitement at the possibility of making a fun and less serious Star Wars movie.
Since then, very little has come out about Lando. Donald Glover remains a huge star with a packed schedule and getting feature films off the ground hasn’t been easy these past few years, but we’d say this ship has entirely sailed away just yet.
The Acolyte – RELEASED & CANCELED
For many, one of the most intriguing announcements made by Kennedy on Disney Investor Day 2020 was The Acolyte. Described as a female-led exploration of the dark side, the series premiered in 2024 and was met with a divisive reaction (for what it’s worth, we loved it, despite its narrative issues).
Unfortunatley, The Acolyte was canceled by Disney soon after the premiere of its finale. Since then, star Manny Jacinto has spoken openly about how he would like the show to be revived some day. However, as of now, nothing official has been announced.
Visions – RELEASED & ON-GOING
The animated anthology Star Wars series Visions has been immensely successful to date. With three seasons under its belt and spin-off shows to come, Visions shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Rangers of the New Republic – CANCELED
Rangers of the New Republic was scrapped before it even began. The series was doomed once Cara Dune made comments Lucasfilm denounced as “abhorrent.” In 2022, both Kennedy and Filoni confirmed the series was no longer in active development.
Ahsoka – RELEASED & ON-GOING
Ahsoka Season 1 was released in 2023 and Season 2 is scheduled to hit Disney+ in 2026. The new season is currently in post-production after wrapping filming a few months ago in London.
Willow – RELEASED & UNAVAILABLE
The sequel series to the cult classic debuted to fan love but seemingly poor viewership. In a shocking move, Willow was removed from Disney+ and is currently unavailable to watch.
A Droid Story – (PROBABLY) CANCELED
This Lucasfilm animated movie focusing on R2-D2 and C-3PO was scheduled to premiere on Disney+. However, there hasn’t been a single official update on the project since February 2021.
Indiana Jones 5 – RELEASED
The fifth and final film of the Indiana Jones franchise, eventualy titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, was reventually released in summer 2023 to mixed reception.
Children of Blood & Bone – IN POST-PRODUCTION
Kennedy announced that a live-action adaptation of the acclaimed fantasy novel by Tomi Adeyemi was on the horizon five years ago. Unforutnatley, behind the scenes difficulties meant that Lucasfilm eventually let the film rights to the novel lapse.
The film was revived by Paramount Piictures, who hired Gina Prince-Bythewood to direct and develop the script. The movie stars The Acolyte lead Amandla Stenberg and wrapped principal photography in June 2025 ahead of a planned January 15, 2027 release.
