Speak he will not.
The galaxy’s most adorable 50-year-old, commonly known as Baby Yoda and formally known as Grogu, will make his big-screen debut when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22. Ahead of the film’s release, former Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy spoke to Variety and revealed an interesting detail about Grogu’s character arc in the upcoming film.
Kennedy revealed that Grogu will not gain the power of speech in the new film. This news comes after years of speculation as to whether Grogu will speak backwards in the way that Yoda does or if he will speak normally as other characters in the Star Wars universe do. It looks like The Mandalorian and Grogu will not provide an answer to this question.
In the interview, Kennedy went on to describe Grogu as “another perfect example of a character that has to emote and you have to feel connected to, and he never speaks a word.”
Kennedy also said that fans will fall deeper in love with Grogu “on the big screen, and he never says a word.”
From the trailers released so far, it looks like there will be plenty of opportunities to fall deeper in love with Grogu when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters, even if he don’t find out whether Grogu will possess the unique speech pattern of Yoda.
