By George & Josh Bate

The Mandalorian and Grogu made its world premiere at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California on a night that welcomed Star Wars back to the big screen after seven years. First reactions from the premiere and pouring in and praising a film we described as being “quintessential Star Wars.”
The Nerds of Color described the film as “bigger, bolder, more brutal than Mando’s ever been,” stating that it “begs to be seen on the biggest screen possible.”
Grogu’s role in the film, meanwhile, is receiving resounding praise, with Christopher Gallardo saying that Grogu and all the Anzellan puppets “will tug at your heartstrings.
We and Courtney Howard referred to Favreau’s movie as “cinematic,” while BeanzGotGamez agreed with us that Rotta the Hutt stole the show. More lukewarm reception toward Rotta came from Perri Nemiroff, however, who found the character marred by difficulties bringing Hutts to life in live-action.
Other criticisms have pointed to a “second act dragging down the pacing” and an experience that, as Germain Lussier of Gizmodo described, was enjoyable but left him frustrated.

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU makes the 7 year wait for a STAR WARS movie worthwhile. Cinematic, epic, heartwarming. Brilliantly captures the spirit & joy of the original trilogy and Indiana Jones movies. Rotta the Hutt is the surprising standout. This is quintessential STAR WARS pic.twitter.com/4yaFbqYk3G

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is such a blast. Every element you could ever want from a Star Wars movie is in here. Totally approachable to new audiences while honoring established fans. Epic scale and visuals. Beautiful themes. We had massive smiles on our faces the whole movie… pic.twitter.com/hQSzazMu57

Ludwig Göransson’s score THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is outstanding. He blends orchestral John Williams music with choir with hip-hop with 80s horror movie synth. Such a unique, yet completely fitting score for a Star Wars movie. Takes #TheMandalorianandGrogu to the next level. pic.twitter.com/H7AERPUL5F

Not a follower of the @themandalorian TV series. Loved the film, SO charming. Lots of character and story, a set up for two more films. Very much like Project Hail Mary, same friendship. Grogu for Best Supporting Actor! Music is sensational — great score. Production detail A+

#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is a ton of fun! A perfect Summer movie. Action-packed with a lot of humor & heart. Not episodic. A fully cinematic journey. Grogu steals the show. See it on the biggest screen possible. pic.twitter.com/f8TTAs5uB6

#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is a grin-inducing crowd-pleaser that puts Star Wars back on theatrical track. Director Jon Favreau is (again) a safe pair of hands that deliver a solid, thrilling and engaging romp. A solid popcorn movie that is the summer blockbuster you’re looking for. pic.twitter.com/ox2cVXexoJ

#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is an energizing, action-packed adventure that any Star Wars fan can enjoy. All of the fight scenes and high-speed chases will keep you hooked. Pedro Pascal still nails it as Din Djarin, but it's Grogu (and ALL the puppets) will tug at your heartstrings. pic.twitter.com/JXDwye5vSl

Just got done watching #TheMandalorianandGrogu After 7 years without a @starwars movie…This was DEFINITELY The Way. An incredibly fun time that will remind you why the Galaxy, Far, Far Away is so special. Be on the lookout for plenty of posts from me with @screenrant 🔥 pic.twitter.com/NaKvcArNvC

I really enjoyed #TheMandalorianandGrogu. It takes the action to another level on the big screen and had me wishing Mando had a video game. Didn't expect Ratto The Hutt to steal the show.

Ludwig Göransson also snapped, that new Mando theme is a bop. pic.twitter.com/xXOkd07lXz
#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is the most fun I’ve had at a @starwars film in a decade! Bigger, bolder, more brutal than Mando’s ever been. It begs to be seen on the biggest screen possible! @themandalorian pic.twitter.com/NrIrSUuLvv

#TheMandalorianandGrogu is a blast – proving that #StarWars doesn’t need lightsabers to be worthy of the big screen. Cool creature design & a sleek look make this promotion to the theatrical experience well-deserved, and it smartly leans towards entertaining action-adventure. pic.twitter.com/kta8vtt3O2

Star Wars returns to the big screen in the best way possible! Mando and Grogu deliver a heartfelt adventure packed with fun for the whole family. Ludwig Göransson’s score shines and is incredible from start to finish. Don’t miss this one in theaters!#TheMandalorianAndGrogu

#TheMandalorianAndGrogu: I am just defenseless against Grogu. (And the Anzellan droidsmiths.) Irresistibly cute and also a filmmaking feat I cannot get enough of.
— Perri Nemiroff (@PNemiroff) May 15, 2026
Rotta the Hutt? Not as much. Live action Hutts are a challenge to pull off, a gladiator Hutt even more so, and it… pic.twitter.com/QLHcyRvK2u
I’ve seen #TheMandalorianAndGrogu!

Above all else, M&G is a super FUN Star Wars movie. It’s not perfect, but there’s a lot for fans to love. It plays like an extended episode with double the budget and moves from one incredible action set piece to the next. IMAX is a must. pic.twitter.com/guMoP6bwZc
#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is a pure Star Wars delight. While it doesn’t blaze new territory, the film delivers exactly what you want out of a summer blockbuster set in the galaxy far, far away. Action, thrills, humor, eye-popping alien designs, a deep respect for the practical… pic.twitter.com/VmUNtf9wB5

#TheMandalorianAndGrogu is one of the weakest Star Wars movies.
— Jonathan Sim (@TheJonathanSim) May 15, 2026
An emotionless, predictable experience that doesn't push Din Djarin anywhere interesting. Dull, unexciting fight scenes; just CGI monsters. Action figures mashed together.
A long, colorless made-for-TV movie. pic.twitter.com/DoOpve0fPC
#TheMandalorianandGrogu is as expected. A longer, bigger episode of the show. It has one or two stand out scenes but it feels much more interested in developing the story to new locations with new creatures than the characters. Enjoyed some of it, left frustrated but the rest. pic.twitter.com/LRlf8x8CVU

If you wished The Mandalorian was 3x as long, both in runtime and screen size, then you’ll love #TheMandalorianandGrogu
— Dan Casey (@DanCasey) May 15, 2026
It’s a perfectly fine standalone adventure full of explosions, monsters, and an uncomfortably jacked Hutt. I had a good time! pic.twitter.com/073gw6MPDa
#TheMandalorianandGrogu delivers on bringing A Galaxy Far Far Away back to the big screen! While not a home run, Jon Favreau understands the assignment and manages to deliver big Star Wars spectacle for the whole family to enjoy. The sequences filmed for @IMAX were incredible! pic.twitter.com/eXyFvck2Hc

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is a wonderful film, about friendship, and the fight for what’s right. The wait for another Star Wars film was clearly worth it. Gasped at some of the major moments and was glued to the screen. #themandalorian #themandalorianandgrogu pic.twitter.com/BARJqX7Qg1

#themandalorianandgrogu is the perfect kick off to summer blockbuster season! So much fun, lots of action and nostalgia #starwars franchise is known for! Star Wars is back baby! Thx Jon Favreau pic.twitter.com/bYttQWGWeY

#TheMandalorianandGrogu is the ultimate team up! If you love Grogu you’ll gush over this. Fun & action packed w/ a strong opening. However, bit too long, with 2nd act dragging down the pacing & its lack of dialogue. Enjoyed the relationship between Mando & Grogu. LOVED the score pic.twitter.com/aTPt8ugDnU
