The Book of Boba Fett may have had it issues, but that hasn’t stopped us and numerous other Star Wars fans clamoring for a second season of the Temuera Morrison-led show. While no official announcements have been made regarding a Season 2, recent comments from a Star Wars actor provide unexpected insights into what could have been (or what may be) in store if the journeys of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand continued.
At Fan Expo Philadelphia, The Mandalorian and Grogu actor Jonny Coyne discussed plans that his character Janu Coin was originally going to appear in The Mandalorian Season 4 and possibly an episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Here’s what Coyne said (per ScreenRant):
“They said they were going to put me into [The Mandalorian] season 4, and maybe a possible Boba Fett episode as well, and then it all went away. It all went away, and then the movie happened.”
Coyne’s comments suggest that Lucasfilm was considering going to production on a second season of The Book of Boba Fett at some point. The season, according to Coyne, may have featured him reprise his role as the Imperial warlord Janu Coin, who serves as one of the main antagonists of The Mandalorian and Grogu. But what would Janu Coin’s inclusion in The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 meant for the broader universe?

Janu Coin, as revealed in The Mandalorian Season 3, is a member of the Shadow Council, a covertly assembled group of former Imperials who are trying to restore the power of the Empire and overthrow the fledgling New Republic. Coin’s inclusion in The Mandalorian and Grogu made sense as Din Djarin and Grogu committed to working for the New Republic, who are actively pursuing remnants of the fallen Empire.
Coyne’s remark that his character may have appeared in The Book of Boba Fett suggests that this story of members of the Imperial Remnant trying to restart the Empire would have spilled over into Temuera Morrison’s series. This is an interesting point as the first (and so far only) season of The Book of Boba Fett is almost entirely devoid of the Empire and, instead, focuses on Boba Fett’s attempts to seize and maintain control of the criminal empire once controlled by Jabba the Hutt.
Seemingly, Season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett would have gone grander with its narrative and tied in to plot threads from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Mandalorian and Grogu, all of which position former members of the Empire as primary antagonists.
If we speculate even further, it seems as if The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 would have moved the Star Wars universe ever closer to the big MandoVerse crossover movie that Kathleen Kennedy announced back in 2020 at Disney Investor Day. That film, which will be directed by new Lucasfilm Co-President Dave Filoni, is set to feature characters from across the Disney+ series executive produced by Filoni and Jon Favreau.
For now, we’re left to hope that Boba Fett returns to live-action Star Wars sooner rather than later. While The Book of Boba Fett was far from perfect, there was enough feedback from the series that Lucasfilm could incorporate to make a more focused sophomore outing.
