Embo recently made his live-action debut in The Mandalorian and Grogu and became the latest character from Star Wars animation to make their way into live-action. The Kyuzo bounty hounter is a formidable match for Din Djarin in the movie, but what is it about Embo that makes him such a great bounty hunter? Well, there’s a strange reason in canon for that.
Embo is a member of the Kyuzo species, who helm from the Outer Rim world of Phatrong. This planet has a much higher gravitational pull than most other planets in the galaxy. In turn, when Embo is on other worlds, such as Nal Hutta and Nevarro in The Mandalorian and Grogu, he proves particularly adept at making big leaps and brisk movements as he has developed dense muscle fibers and lightning-fast reflexes. This also explains why Embo is able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Din Djarin, Anakin Skywalker, and Savage Opress over his lifetime.
This is somewhat similar to how Superman’s powers work in the DC Universe. Early comics explain that Krypton was a massive, dense planet with extreme gravity. Once Superman arrived on Earth, which has a much weaker gravitational pull, he developed superhuman density, strength, and the ability to leap massive distances.
The fact that Embo’s adeptness as bounty hunter comes from differences in gravity means his name is a neat wink to science nerds out there. EMBO is the European Molecular Biology Organization, which frequently publishes research regarding how gravity affects living organisms.
Recently, Jon Favreau revealed that Embo did not see Din Djarin unmasked in The Mandalorian and Grogu. This is important as, according to the creed established by the Children of the Watch, anyone who sees a Mandalorian’s face cannot be left alive, hence why the Hutt Twins had to meet their end in the movie.
