Star Wars Visions makes its triumphant return next month when Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi debuts on Disney+.
Revealed at Anime Expo, the first trailer for the new series, alongside poster art, preview the next journey in the story of Kara as she pursues her missing father and evades dangerous Jedi hunters.
Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi comes from Lucasfilm and Production I.G. The series continues the story that began with “The Ninth Jedi” from Star Wars: Visions Volume 1 and was continued with “The Ninth Jedi – Child of Hope” in Visions Volume 3.
What is Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi About?
The series is set in the distant future, long after the era of the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, when the Jedi have faded into legend. Lah Kara leaves her home alongside new Jedi allies to free her father Lah Zhima, the only known sabersmith in the galaxy, from the clutches of Jedi hunters.
The new series promises to continue one of The Ninth Jedi’s most innovative comments – the color of a lightsaber blade changes according to the wielder’s alignment with the Force. The end of the trailer shows that Kara’s blade turns red, possibly teasing that she turns to the dark side in the new series.
In an interview with StarWars.com, Producer Hitoshi Ito, Supervising Director Kenji Kamiyama, and Director Shunsuke Tada discussed the upcoming series in greater depth.
“A main [theme] of The Ninth Jedi is that things aren’t always black and white, dark and light,” Kamiyama said. “I asked myself if there are some problems that Jedi cannot solve. There’s a contradiction that Jedi want to make peace, but there are some things they can’t solve with the Jedi Order only. Everyone has to have some kind dark side to solve something, to be good. But do you call it a completely dark side? We wanted to create a new definition of a Jedi. Kara is pure light side, but Nawaam reflects the duality of humans.”
Todo compared and contrasted Kara from Luke Skywalker. “Luke was also an unknown boy and not talented in the beginning, [and] he gradually becomes a true Jedi,” said Tada. “We tried not to make Kara look like a Master from the beginning, but she’s gradually growing. In the original story of The Ninth Jedi, Kara’s not trying to win over her father or somebody else. She’s trying to win over herself and grow as a person.”
The interview reveals that the masked General Nawaam is loosely inspired by Darth Vader.
More Long-Form Star Wars: Visions Series Appear To Be in the Works
An official press release from Disney and Lucasfilm confirms that the new series is “part of an all-new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which will be used to tell longer form Star Wars: Visions stories.
This aligns with comments made by executive producer James Waugh at Celebration 2025, in which he teased that the creatives behind the scenes have ideas of how to expand other acclaimed Visions shorts into long-form shows.
