Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic wasn’t the only new Star Wars game announced at 2025’s The Game Awards. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an epic new racing game from Fuse Games and Lucasfilm Games that will release next year.

What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer about?
Galactic Racer follows a new character named Shade, described as a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge. His aim is to become an elite racing pilot, an objective that sees him take on a number of daring races on Jakku (the iconic sand planet introduced in The Force Awakens), Ando Prime, Sentinel One, and other locations.
The story will follow The Galactic League, an underground race scene where syndicates bankroll chaos and champions are forged.
Also featuring in the story is the dastardly Dug named Sebulba, the cheater who competed with Anakin in the Boonta Eve Classic in The Phantom Menace. “There are particular reasons why he finds his way into our trailer as well as a detail in this shot that may lead to even more questions,” Matt Webster, head of Fuse Games, said. “The answers to which we’ll have to leave to another time!”
It is unclear when in the Star Wars timeline Galactic Racer is set, although an article published on StarWars.com implies it takes place before the time of Rey and the sequel trilogy.
What is the gameplay of Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Galactic Racer, as the title suggests, is a racing game, not unlike the fan-favorite classic game Episode I: Racer. However, the new collaboration from Fuse Games and Lucasfilm Games aims to be “a new expression of racing in a galaxy far, far away,” says Lucasfilm Games head Douglas Reilly.
Webster elaborated on how Galactic Racer will stand apart from other Star Wars racing games. “We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” Webster said. “Along the way you’ll compete with rivals, journey to new planets, and master different classes of repulsor craft — or speeders — each with their own distinct capabilities.
The key leaders at Fuse Games have experience working in the racing genre, having developed Need for Speed, Burnout, and the Starfighter Mode in Star Wars: Battlefront II.
Is Star Wars: Galactic Racer single-player or multiplayer?
Galactic Racer will have a narrative-driven solo campaign, exploring the journey of the aforementioned Shade.
It will also have “awesome multiplayer gameplay,” as one would expect from a racing game.
When does Star Wars: Galactic Racer release?
Galactic Racer will release sometime in 2026.
