Recent years have seen high-profile Star Wars games receive the axe before fans ever got to experience them, whether it be Aspyr’s initial take on the Knights of the Old Republic or a Mandalorian FPS from Respawn Entertainment. Now, details of another scrapped Star Wars video game have emerged and offer a glimpse at what could have been a thrilling gaming adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
As reported by MP1st, now-defunct gaming studio Echtra Games was once working on a “mysterious AAA action RPG” set in the Star Wars universe. Codenamed Magellan, the game unfolded from a third-person perspective and was going to feature shoot & loot gameplay. Players would have taken control of either a Mandalorian or a Jedi, while other characters included a masked gunslinger named Triggerman and a blue Twi’lek Jedi named Cleric.
The two classes of characters – Mandalorians and Jedi – can be seen fighting Imperial forces in gameplay, implying that the story would have taken place between Episodes III and IV. Jedi have signature abilities, such as Force control and lightsaber combat, while Mandalorians have jet-packed-assisted mobility, gunfire, and a flamethrower at their disposal.
The game was being developed in Unreal Engine 5 with a targeted release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
