2027 will mark the 50th anniversary of the original Star Wars, George Lucas’ iconic film that forever changed cinema, pop culture, and the world. Lucasfilm and Disney have already announced an enormous slate of projects and events to commemorate the milestone, ranging from a theatrical return of the original film and a massive new museum exhibition to a brand-new theatrical adventure, a new Star Wars Celebration, books, comics, collectibles and more.
The two companies added even more to their slate of 50th anniversary celebrations today following a panel at New York Comic Con 2026.
With that in mind, the following is a chronological guide to the major officially announced Star Wars projects and celebrations coming in 2027 that will commemorate the monumental anniversary.
January 2027 – Star Wars x Marvel Crossover

Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles will bring the Star Wars and Marvel universes together for the first time in an official comic-book crossover.
Written by Kevin Smith with art by David Marquez, the five-issue limited series will see Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo collide with Marvel characters including Spider-Man and the Avengers.
The story takes place on Earth-616 after a reality-shattering event allows Marvel’s heroes to witness the events of A New Hope.
Issue #1 is scheduled for January 2027, making it one of the earliest major publishing events of the anniversary year.
February 2, 2027 — The Original Trilogy Comes to Audiobook

For the first time, the original Star Wars movie novelizations will be released as unabridged audiobooks, narrated by Marc Thompson. This means listeners will be able to experience the original novelizations of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in full.
Considering the anniversary is fundamentally about returning to the original 1977 story, giving fans a new way to experience those classic adaptations feels like a particularly appropriate way to commemorate the occasion.
February 13, 2027 — Star Wars: The Experience Opens in Philadelphia

On February 13, 2027, Star Wars: The Experience — A Journey Through the Galaxy officially opens at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute.
Created by The Franklin Institute in collaboration with Lucasfilm, Disney Consumer Products and MDSX, the exhibition is being billed as the largest and most comprehensive behind-the-scenes traveling Star Wars exhibition to date. The Philadelphia engagement will run through September 6, 2027, before beginning a five-year tour across North America.
The exhibition will occupy approximately 18,000 square feet and feature more than 70 artifacts, including screen-used costumes, props, creatures, droids and other pieces of Star Wars history. Among the highlights are Darth Vader’s armor, Darth Maul’s lightsaber hilt, R2-D2, C-3PO, Grogu and a full-sized speeder bike.
There will also be interactive environments. Fans will be able to enter a recreation inspired by Queen Amidala’s throne room, explore the “Wireframe Worlds” gallery, encounter a full-scale Han Solo frozen in carbonite, and participate in an RFID-powered interactive experience called The Force That Connects Us.
The exhibition will also celebrate five decades of Star Wars toys, featuring more than 100 action figures and collectibles, including more than 30 rare prototypes, development models, tooling samples and original design materials.
February 16 – Star Wars: A New Hope – A Visual Archive

Just announced at NYCC 2026, Insight Editions will publish an in-depth Visual Archive of A New Hope in February.
February 19, 2027 — Star Wars: A New Hope Returns to Theaters

On February 19, 2027, the original Star Wars returns to movie theaters.
Lucasfilm announced that a newly restored version of the original 1977 theatrical release will play in theaters for a limited time as part of the yearlong 50th anniversary celebration. The film was, of course, later renamed Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Lucasfilm is specifically describing this as a restoration of the 1977 theatrical release, rather than simply another screening of the familiar Special Edition. The release will therefore give fans the opportunity to experience the movie as it originally appeared when it changed cinema forever.
Lucasfilm and Disney have confirmed that the original Star Wars will receive its first-ever IMAX presentation, including select IMAX 70mm film locations, alongside digital presentations.
March 16 – Star Wars: A New Hope – The Complete Manga

Celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary, this deluxe omnibus collects all four volumes of the Eisner Award–winning manga adaptation of Star Wars: A New Hope.
Star Wars: A New Hope (The Manga) presents a complete manga adaptation of the iconic film, chronicling Luke Skywalker’s journey from his quiet life on Tatooine to his role in the Rebel Alliance, as he joins Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi in a desperate struggle against the Galactic Empire and its ultimate weapon, the Death Star.
April 1–4, 2027 — Star Wars Celebration Los Angeles

Star Wars Celebration Los Angeles will take place from April 1–4, 2027, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The location was announced during the closing ceremonies of Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, confirming that Celebration would return to the United States specifically to commemorate the 50th anniversary.
This will be the first Star Wars Celebration held in Los Angeles since 2006.
The official event artwork pays tribute to the classic Tom Jung poster for the original Star Wars, while incorporating Los Angeles landmarks and a Hollywood theme.
Fans can expect panels, exhibitors, merchandise, guests, collectibles and tons of exciting announcements.
The event’s official site is already promising “once-in-a-lifetime reveals,” while a growing list of celebrity guests has been announced.
Among those scheduled to appear are Anthony Daniels, whose appearance will be especially meaningful given that 2027 marks 50 years since his debut as C-3PO, alongside Ian McDiarmid and numerous stars and voice actors from across the saga.
There is also already a dedicated 50th anniversary merchandise collection, including jackets, jerseys, Spirit Jerseys, pins, hats, patches, shirts and other items carrying the gold anniversary logo.
April 6, 2027 — Star Wars: A Celebration

Just a few days after Celebration begins, a major book arrives from DK.
Written by Pablo Hidalgo and Anthony Breznican, the lavish anniversary book looks at the entire history of Star Wars, from the creation of the movies to merchandise, books, comics, video games, fandom, cosplay and the conventions that helped turn Star Wars into a worldwide cultural phenomenon.
DK currently lists the publication date as April 6, 2027.
April 27 – Star Wars: Celebrating 50 Years of A New Hope

Kristin Baver pens this new Abrams Books release celebrating the 50th anniversary of A New Hope.
April 6 – Star Wars: A New Hope: The Complete Screenplay

Just announced at NYCC 2026, Insight Editions will publish a script book of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, which features the complete dialogue alongside photos from the scenes.
April 27, 2027 — A New Hope: Triple Take

The original movie will be retold yet again, but this time from three very different perspectives.
Star Wars: A New Hope: Triple Take is a new graphic novel from Mad Cave Studios and writers Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn.
The concept is exactly what the title promises: the events of A New Hope are retold through the eyes of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo.
Luke views the adventure as a mythic journey of destiny. Leia remembers the dangerous reality of fighting the Empire. And Han remembers himself as being extremely heroic.
The graphic novel features four artists bringing the different perspectives to life and is designed as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the original film.
April 27, 2027 — A New Hope Gets Its Original Marvel Comics Adaptation Back

April gets even more nostalgic with another major publishing release.
Marvel’s Star Wars: A New Hope 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition collects Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin’s original six-issue comic adaptation of Star Wars. This adaptation is historically significant as Marvel’s first Star Wars comic hit shelves before the movie itself opened, giving readers their first published glimpse at Luke, Leia, Han, Vader and the galaxy far, far away.
The new hardcover collects Star Wars #1–6 and is currently scheduled for April 27, 2027.
So 50 years after Marvel introduced readers to Star Wars, the original adaptation is getting a new anniversary edition.
May 28, 2027 — Star Wars: Starfighter

On May 28, 2027, Lucasfilm will release its newest theatrical Star Wars movie – Star Wars: Starfighter.
Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, Starfighter is an entirely new standalone adventure set approximately five years after The Rise of Skywalker. The film also stars Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Flynn Gray.
Gosling plays a character named Kade Auberon, with the story following a cynical rogue who is confronted by his mysterious past and thrown into a dangerous adventure across the galaxy.
Lucasfilm has described Kade’s vessel as a decommissioned craft that he claims was the fastest starfighter ever built.
May 28, 2027 falls directly on the 50th anniversary weekend of the original Star Wars‘ theatrical premiere.
Even more appropriately, Starfighter was shot for IMAX using IMAX-certified film cameras, with IMAX 70mm prints planned for select locations.
Hasbro’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

The celebration won’t be limited to movies, museums and books.
Hasbro has confirmed that its Star Wars collecting lines will be celebrating the 50th anniversary throughout 2027.
The company has revealed 50th anniversary packaging for its Black Series figures, including special golden poster-inspired designs and retailer-exclusive packaging inspired by the classic Kenner cards.
The first 2027 Black Series “Saga” wave is particularly appropriate for the anniversary year: it features one character representing each of the first six Star Wars films.
The lineup includes:
- Queen Amidala — The Phantom Menace
- Padawan Anakin Skywalker — Attack of the Clones
- Galactic Marine — Revenge of the Sith
- Luke Skywalker in his X-wing pilot gear — A New Hope
- IG-88 — The Empire Strikes Back
- Tessek — Return of the Jedi
The figures are scheduled for spring 2027, with preorders beginning in October 2026.
Hasbro has also revealed a new Stormtrooper figure for the anniversary line, including special 50th anniversary cardback packaging, with additional retailer-exclusive Kenner-style versions planned.
There will undoubtedly be considerably more merchandise announcements as 2027 approaches.
