Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore officially releases next week in the U.S. as the followup to 2018’s The Crimes of Grindewald brings in Mads Mikkelsen in the villain role and positions Jude Law in a central position.
The first Fantastic Beasts film garnered positive reactions from fans and critics alike, sporting a healthy 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79% audience score. The second film proved to be slightly more divisive, as audiences were generally less positive on The Crimes of Grindewald.
Now, initial reactions to The Secrets of Dumbledore have been released, teasing a return of form of sorts to the franchise.
The HoloFiles’ Reaction:
#FantasticBeasts #SecretsOfDumbledore benefits from Jude Law, warm/charming again, in a central role. Meandering narrative & strange exclusion of Tina/Newt romantic arc. A step down from under-appreciated predecessors. Being in the Wizarding World again is nostalgic & emotional pic.twitter.com/yOvkasDhAm

#FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore is an improvement on the sequel, even if it only fleetingly recaptures the magic. Mads Mikkelsen is a huge upgrade, but the MVP is Jessica Williams's Lally. It's just overstuffed and unsure if it's a Beasts film or a Harry Potter film. pic.twitter.com/65HeyIgeXb

#SecretsOfDumbledore is a big bounce back for the #FantasticBeasts series for me! Back to enjoying the group dynamic & caring about the main mission. A lil thin here & there but a FAR more engaging ride than the last. Dan Fogler continues to be a favorite … and the Niffler. pic.twitter.com/QBkyMOq4UT

#FantasticBeasts #TheSecretsOfDumbledore is a BIG improvement over the previous two movies. Any scene with Mads Mikkelsen & Jude Law is fantastic. The climax of the film is very moving and emotional. With that said too much time is spent on supporting characters and their story.

The #SecretsOfDumbledore is an exciting and enjoyable Wizarding World adventure. Thankfully, leagues above the previous, it’s probably the best Fantastic Beasts so far. Great character work, fun adventure, and amazing duels. Fans should really enjoy this one! pic.twitter.com/M56qR8L0KC

Steve Kloves miraculously salvages a sinking ship w/#FantasticBeasts3 but it doesn’t fully fix the larger issues w/the series. Still, by far the best of the 3. The series feels FUN again. The layers of ##Dumbledore are peeled back & explored in interesting ways. Had a good time! pic.twitter.com/ZAvIfNHzEE
