The newest installment in the horror/action/sci-fi Predator franchise is right around the corner. As anticipation builds for the new film (sporting the brilliant title Prey), we take a look at everything we know about the upcoming release.
Prey is the fifth installment in the Predator franchise, but is actually a prequel to the 1987 classic. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who helmed the excellent 10 Cloverfield Lane. Unlike the previous four Predator films, Prey will be released straight to a streaming platform. Prey will make its debut on August 5, 2022 on Hulu in the United States, Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ internationally.
So, what’s Prey about?
The official premise released by 20th Century Studios and Hulu is as follows: “Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago during 1719, the film follows Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior, who has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains. So when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien with a technologically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”
Much to the excitement of franchise fans, Prey will be rated R. So, get ready for some brutal kills.
Director Dan Trachtenberg recently had an interview with SlashFilm where he talked about how the film will approach characters who speak another language. Interestingly, the film was shot in both English and Comanche. The entire cast performed an alternate, entirely Comanche dub of the film. When Prey streams on Hulu, audiences are free to choose which language they watch it in.
To date, there are two pieces of poster art for Prey and two trailers, all of which can be seen below.

Prey is streaming August 5th on Hulu. Stay tuned to The HoloFiles for more coverage of the new Predator film!
