WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Fast X
Some post-credits scenes deliver a closing joke, while others tease what’s to come. The latter is, more often than not, something predictable or, at the least, foreseeable. This is not the case with the mid-credits scene in Fast X.
Fasten your seatbelt and let’s breakdown that wild mid-credits scene.
After the initial credits roll, a scene begins showing a masked agent walking into another one of Fast X villain Dante Reyes’ (Jason Momoa) faux bases, which is a church this time. TV monitors display Momoa’s villain speaking ominously and presenting clips of the damage caused in previous Fast and Furious films. The clips eventually reveal that the masked law enforcement agent, despite the involvement of Dom and company, was the one who fired the bullet that killed Hernan Reyes in Fast Five. At this point, the agent pulls off his mask to reveal…Dwayne Johnson returning as Luke Hobbs.

Johnson’s involvement in Fast X comes as a surprise given his well-publicized feud with star Vin Diesel, which, in part, led to the spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw. Many thought Johnson’s time in the Fast and Furious franchise was done and that a return of Hobbs was unlikely, if not possible. Johnson’s return, however, in the Fast X mid-credits scene sets up an even grander head-to-head in the next one (or two?) Fast and Furious films.
