Thrawn Actor Lars Mikkelsen Details Preparation for Live-Action Version of Character

By George Bate & Josh Bate

Lars Mikkelsen walked out to a rousing reception at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 when it was (finally) revealed that the Danish actor will reprise his role as Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels in this year’s live-action Ahsoka series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly‘s podcast Dagobah Dispatch, Mikkelsen provided some details of his preparation to play Thrawn in the upcoming series. When asked he went back to watch old episodes of Star Wars Rebels to familiarize himself with the voice and character again, Mikkelsen stated, “No, I didn’t really. We needed to do something else, so I wanted to detach myself from that to create something new.”

Expect to see much more of Mikkelsen and Thrawn in the next several months as the ominous admiral will seemingly play a large role in Star Wars storytelling for the foreseeable future.

Ahead of the premiere of Ahsoka on August 23, check out our five predictions for the series below:
