WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

The pizza-loving, crime-fighting, sewer-dwelling ninja turtles return to the big screen this week with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. While the movie is action-packed, hilarious, and touching, it also features some teases of what’s to come in the world of TMNT. Read a description of the film’s mid-credits scene below.

Mutant Mayhem concludes with the Turtles defeating Superfly and saving New York City (and the world) from mortal danger. The four Turtles are applauded for their efforts to save the city and finally get the acceptance from the human world they so desperately desired.

The mid-credits scene shows how life in the human world is going for the Turtles as the teens have started high school. Donatello has found friends in the high school’s tech / computer club. The ever-aggressive Raphael has joined the school’s wrestling team. Meanwhile, Michaelangelo has gone the more artistic route in picking up improv comedy. And, finally, Leonardo joins April as the two continue their investigation into TCRI. takes up improv comedy, and Leonardo — who has developed a crush on April — joins her investigation into the sinister TCRI (Techno Cosmic Research Institute).

But that’s not all. It is soon revealed that the Turtles are under surveillance by TCRI and their leader Cynthia Ultrom. Ultrom watches the Turtles engage in their new lives, while being accompanied by the non-mutated version of Superfly (who is basically just a fly). Ultrom has her sights on the Turtles and seemingly wants to get a hold of them for some insidious purpose. How will she intends to get a hold of the Turtles is where things really get interesting.

Ultrom reveals that she will enlist the ominous Shredder to capture the Turtles. Fans of the franchise will recognize Shredder as the primary antagonist of the Turtles, and Mutant Mayhem certainly sets the stage for the villain to play a sizable role in a sequel. Shredder is only shown from behind in Mutant Mayhem, but the brief look at his helmet and armor look great. With a sequel film and a Paramount+ series in development, fingers crossed we see more of Shredder soon.
