June 2024 is full of top-tier television premieres, including The Acolyte, The Bear, The Boys, and House of the Dragon. Check out a breakdown of all the movies and shows releasing this month that we think you should look out for.

Star Wars: The Acolyte

When: June 4

Where: Disney+

Plot: Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland helms this murder mystery series set in the Star Wars universe. The show follows the Jedi, 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, investigating a murder with ties to a former Jedi.

The Watchers

When: June 7

Where: In theaters

Plot: Ishana Night Shyamalan writes and directs this new horror film based on the novel of the same name by A.M. Shine. The film follows 28-year-old artist Mina (played by Dakota Fanning), who gets stranded in an expansive forest in western Ireland. Upon finding shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die

When: June 7

Where: In theaters

Plot: The fourth installment of the buddy cop action comedy series stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. When their late police captain gets linked to drug cartels, wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) embark on a dangerous mission to clear his name.

Hit Man

When: June 7

Where: Netflix

Plot: Richard Linklater directs this action comedy he co-wrote with Glen Powell, who also stars in the film. A part-time staffer with the New Orleans Police Department stumbles into the role of posing undercover as a reliable hitman with the goal of arresting those trying to hire him. He discovers he has a talent for theatrically matching the expectations of his suspects with often-humorous costumes, accents, and mannerisms, which makes him especially adept at his work. He meets with a woman who wants a hitman to kill her husband, but he falls for her at first sight and saves her from getting entrapped. Later she bamboozles her way into his life and murders her husband for the insurance money. 

The Boys – Season 4

When: June 13

Where: Prime Video

Plot: In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.

Inside Out 2

When: June 14

Where: In theaters

Plot: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust have been running a successful operation by all accounts. However, when Anxiety shows up, they aren’t sure how to feel.

House of the Dragon – Season 2

When: June 16

Where: Max

Plot: A Targaryen civil war takes center stage in the second season of this Game of Thrones prequel.

Kinds of Kindness

When: June 21

Where: In theaters

Plot: Emma Stone reteams with director/writer Yorgos Lanthimos for this new dark comedy. A triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

The Bikeriders

When: June 21

Where: In theaters

Plot: Tom Hardy. Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Michael Shannon, and Mike Faist star in Jeff Nichols’ latest movie. Over the course of a decade, a Midwestern motorcycle club evolves from a gathering place for local outsiders to a sinister gang, threatening the original group’s way of life.

The Exorcism

When: June 21

Where: In theaters

Plot: A troubled actor (played by Russell Crowe) begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.

The Bear – Season 3

When: June 27

Where: Hulu

Plot: The third season of FX and Hulu’s acclaimed series debuts this month. Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) pushes himself harder than ever on a quest for culinary excellence.

A Quiet Place: Day One

When: June 28

Where: In theaters

Plot: Taking place before John Krasinski’s first film, a woman named Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) teams up with a man named Eric (Joseph Quinn) to survive an invasion of bloodthirsty aliens with ultrasonic sound hearing.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1

When: June 28

Where: In theaters

Plot: Families, friends and foes discover the lure of the Old West as the Civil War divides the country. Chapter 1 of Kevin Costner’s epic return to the western genre hits theaters at the end of June.
