A surgeon makes a critical decision that has dire consequences for her patient, career, and mental health in A Mistake, a New Zealand medical-drama written, directed, and produced by Christine Jeffs.
Starring Elizabeth Banks as Dr. Beth Taylor, the film captivates with its exploration of the messy world of medical politics and focus on an extremely intelligent and successful, yet vulnerable, woman. A Mistake also excels in its deconstruction of the mythos of doctors from God-like figures, instead portraying them as humans with flaws and individual personalities.

The HoloFiles recently had the opportunity to chat with A Mistake director/writer/producer Christine Jeffs about her new film. The New Zealand-born filmmaker previously directed the films Rain, Sylvia, and Sunshine Cleaning. Her latest effort, A Mistake, made its world premiere at Tribeca Festival 2024 and is now out in theaters.
