Hidden Gems to Stream on Every Major Streaming Service

If you’re like us, it can be difficult to pin down a movie to watch amidst the myriad of streaming services and the seemingly endless number of films they have available. Because of this difficulty, we’ve crafted a breakdown of hidden gems that are streaming on every major streaming service (i.e., Netflix, Hulu, Max, Peacock, Disney+). By ‘hidden gems,’ we mean films that are over-looked, underappreciated, and/or something you probably haven’t seen. Keep reading for our recommendations!

Netflix 

To Catch a Killer (Netflix)

A detective (Shailene Woodley) teams up with a seasoned FBI agent (Ben Mendelsohn) to track down a serial killer. 

The Clovehitch Killer (Netflix)

A teenage son starts to uncover disturbing clues that lead him to suspect his father is a notorious serial killer. 

Unhinged (Netflix)

A road rage incident escalates into a deadly game of cat and mouse between a woman and a dangerously unhinged man (Russell Crowe).

On the Line (Netflix)

A radio host (Mel Gibson) receives a horrifying on-air phone call from a man who says he has kidnapped his family.

The Silencing (Netflix)

A hunter (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and a sheriff (Annabelle Wallis) team up to investigate the disappearance of a young girl in a secluded forest.

Bone Tomahawk (Netflix)

A Western horror film about a sheriff (Kurt Russell) and his crew who try to save a kidnapped woman from a group of cannibals.

Creep (Netflix)

Breathing exciting life into the found footage genre, this psychological horror film follows a videographer who accepts an online ad for a job from a creepy man.

Shimmer Lake (Netflix)

A unique murder mystery told in reverse, starring Rainn Wilson and Benjamin Walker.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Netflix)

A father-son coroner team (Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch) performs an autopsy on a woman’s body, and soon encounter unexplained occurrences.

Hulu

One Hour Photo (Hulu)

A lonely photo technician (Robin Williams) becomes obsessed with a family whose photos he develops.

Appendage (Hulu)

A psychological horror film about a young woman who undergoes a horrifying transformation. Read our review here.

The Last Duel (Hulu)

A historical drama set in medieval France, based on the true story of the last legally sanctioned duel in France, and inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon. The film stars Adam Driver, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Jodie Comer.

What You Wish For (Hulu)

A psychological thriller about a chef who takes a job with a twist. Read our review here.

Fresh (Hulu)

Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan star in this psychological horror film about a woman who falls for a charming man with a dangerous secret.

Prime Video

In the Land of Saints and Sinners (Prime Video)

A retired assassin (Liam Neeson) is drawn back into a world of crime when he seeks redemption. This sounds like a million other Liam Neeson movies, but, trust us, it’s quite good. 

The Voyeurs (Prime Video)

Sydney Sweeney and Justice Smith play a couple, who move into a new apartment and become obsessed with their neighbors.

Awake (Prime Video)

Hayden Christensen plays a man who remains conscious while placed under anaeshtetic for a surgery, only to discover things are more insidious than they seem .

Looking Glass (Prime Video)

A couple (Nicolas Cage and Robin Tunney) purchases a motel and uncovers a two-way mirror in a room.

Max

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (Max)

Yorgos Lanthimos writes and directs this thriller about a surgeon (Colin Farrell) who befriends a dangerous teen (Barry Keoghan).

Paris, Texas (Max)

Not as much of a hidden gem, more an underwatched classic. This drama stars Harry Dean Stanton as a man who embarks on a life-changing odyssey.

Dream Scenario (Max)

Nicolas Cage plays a man who begins to appear in everyone’s dreams and becomes a viral obsession. Read our review here.

The Disaster Artist (Max)

A comedy-drama about the making of the cult film The Room by Tommy Wiseau. 

Good Time (Max)

The Safdie brothers craft this tense heist thriller with Robert Pattinson delivering the best performance of his career. 

Peacock

Gone Baby Gone (Peacock)

Ben Affleck’s directorial debut stars his brother Casey as a detective who investigates the disappearance of a young girl in Boston.

Source Code (Peacock)

Groundhogs Day takes a sci-fi turn in this thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a soldier who relives a bombing on a train until he uncovers the identity of the bomber.

Copshop (Peacock)

Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo star in this action film about a cop trapped in a police station with a bunch of criminals.

Bones and All (Peacock)

Luca Gudagnino directs this disturbing horror romance about young cannibals played by Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet.

Inside Man (Peacock)

Spike Lee directs this excellent heist flick starring Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, and Jodie Foster. 

Disney+

Phantom of the Megaplex (Disney+)

A Disney Channel original movie appropriate for all ages, this film follows a teenager who investigates a sinister plot at the movie theater he works at. 

Mom’s Got A Date with a Vampire (Disney+)

Two teens grow concerned that their mother is dating a vampire in this Disney Channel classic. 

Young Woman and the Sea (Disney+)

A biographical drama about the true story of the first woman to swim the English Channel, starring Daisy Ridley.
