Sony Pictures kicked off CinemaCon 2025 with a presentation showcasing exclusive footage and announcements from their slate of upcoming releases. From two new Spider-Man films to two (maybe three) 28 Years Later movies to four The Beatles biopics, Sony previewed a variety of films from an array of acclaimed filmmakers.
Below you’ll find a comprehensive film-by-film overview of Sony Pictures’ CinemaCon 2025 presentation.
Anaconda

Sony Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation began with a pre-recorded video of Jack Black and Paul Rudd. The stars of the upcoming reimagining of Anaconda jokingly played off one another as they introduced Sony hierarchy. Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman hinted that the joking tone of the video diverges from the tone of the final movie, although with Black and Rudd involved we expect there will be plenty of laughs.
Surprisingly, no footage from Anaconda was shown to the CinemaCon crowd, despite the film hitting theaters this Christmas and recently wrapping production.
Anaconda hits theaters December 25, 2025.
28 Years Later

The first film presented during Sony Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation was 28 Years Later. Director Danny Boyle was present to discuss the film, beginning with a terrific Mark Twain quote. “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
Boyle spoke about what drew him back to a world he first brought to life over 20 years ago. “I still love an apocalypse, British style,” Boyle said. “I love killing the infected (zombies if you like). And I still love blowing shit up.”
Regarding whether Cillian Murphy will return in 28 Years Later or the two other films in the trilogy, Boyle said, “Like all good things in life, you may have to wait a little while for him to make his appearance.”

Boyle spoke fondly (and jokingly) of his trio of stars. In talking of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Boyle said that he is the next James Bond, although whether Boyle was joking or if he is privy to insider information remains unclear. Next, Boyle said Jodie Comer is someone who could certainly play James Bond, while Ralph Fiennes (who played M in several films) could have been 007 at another point in his career.
A new trailer for 28 Years Later was shown exclusively to the CinemaCon crowd. The trailer reveals that a group of people, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Jamie, his pregnant wife Isla (played by Jodie Comer), and their son, live on a small island to remain safe from the infected. The trailer features lots of quick cuts, jump scares, and close-ups of terrifying zombies. A particularly memorable sequence depicted a group of infected running across a bright field, while the trailer’s most understated moment came from a quick shot of a zombie crawling on the ground with something pulsating under the skin of his back. The trailer concludes with a priest praying in a church before a horde of infected burst through stained glass windows and turn him into one of their own. From the footage shown, it is clear Boyle is employing the same kind of gritty, guerilla, handheld filmmaking that made 28 Days Later so visceral and impactful.

28 Years Later is intended to be the first of a new trilogy of films. The second film is titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and is directed by Nia DaCosta, who is known for directing The Marvels and the Candyman reboot. Boyle described DaCosta as a “dear friend” as he welcomed her out on stage. Speaking of her new film, DaCosta said, “I let my freak flag fly….I am very thankful to Danny [Boyle] and [screenwriter] Alex [Garland] for letting me make the movie my own.”
DaCosta presented a harrowing still from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple to preview her upcoming film. The still depicts a demonic, maniacal Ralph Fiennes in a dark environment covered in blood. Fiennes looks worse for wear in the trailer for 28 Years Later, but he looks a whole lot worse in its sequel The Bone Temple. Although this seems to suggest his character lives beyond the events of 28 Years Later, it certainly hints at a rough road ahead for the character played by the Conclave actor.
Regarding how the three films of the new 28 Years Later trilogy link together, Boyle said, “Alex Garland and I set out to make 3 films in this apocalyptic film. Each one stands alone, but they link together principally due to the cast.” Boyle candidly said that they currently do not have financing for the third film in this new trilogy and encouraged moviegoers to see 28 Years Later this summer.
28 Years Later will hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
The sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will hit theaters on January 16, 2026, which DaCosta proudly said aligns with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Caught Stealing
Next up on stage during Sony’s presentation was Darren Aronofsky. The director of The Whale noted that this was the first CinemaCon he ever attended, alluding to his penchant for more offbeat movies.

Aronofsky revealed that he wanted to adapt the novel Caught Stealing by Charlie Huston early in his career but was unable to secure the rights to the novel until recently. A key decision he had to make early on was whether to set the film in the present day or in the 1990s. Ultimately deciding to do the latter allowed Aronofsky to depict a blissful period of time in history in which the Soviet Union was defeated, 9/11 hadn’t happened yet, and hip-hop was emerging. “It was exciting to slip back into [the 1990s],” Aronofsky said to the CinemaCon crowd.
Caught Stealing stars Austin Butler as a former baseball player who finds himself immersed in a world of criminality in 1990s New York. Aronofsky described Caught Stealing as “a true love letter to the greatest city in the world.”
Aronofsky presented the first trailer for Caught Stealing to the CinemaCon crowd. Generally speaking, the film looks far more mainstream and universally appealing than anything Aronofsky has ever directed. The film shows Butler’s character Hank agree to take care of his friend Russ’ cat. Russ, played by Matt Smith, is English and sports a crazy red and yellow mohawk that certainly stands out. With Russ out of town and Hank taking care of Russ’ cat, Hank soon finds himself head-to-head with all sorts of crime factions, including Puerto Ricans, Eastern Europeans, and Orthodox Jews. The former are led by Colorado (played by Bad Bunny), while the latter are played by Liev Schreiber and Vincent D’Onofrio. Zoë Kravitz is also in the film, playing Hank’s girlfriend Yvonne. The trailer was a lot of fun and hinted that Aronofsky and Sony may have a crowd-pleaser on their hands. Not the kind of awards fare that Aronofsky has dabbled in recently but something that will appeal to a broader audience.
Caught Stealing hits theaters on August 29, 2025.
Resident Evil

Barbarian director Zach Cregger then came on stage to discuss his adaptation of the zombie video game Resident Evil.
As the film has not started production, Cregger couldn’t reveal much yet, although he revealed that “it follows one central protagonist as they go from point A to point B as they descent deeper into Hell.”
Cregger continued, “There’s a moment that comes in every moment of every Resident Evil game where you find yourself standing in the mouth of a dark passageway. One shot in the gun is left. You know that something horrible is waiting for you in that darkness, that awful moment where you have to will yourself. That’s something that every Resident Evil game has perfected and has kept me and millions of other players returning to the series for decades.”
Cregger spoke of his admiration of the Resident Evil games, in particular the sense of dread they cultivate as players seep deeper and deeper into the horrifying world.
Resident Evil hits theaters on September 18, 2026.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

The highlight of Sony’s CinemaCon presentation came in unexpected fashion with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The new film from director Kogonada, who previously directed After Yang and two episodes of The Acolyte, stars Margot Robbie in her first since Barbie and Colin Farrell.
The trailer for the film shown exclusively to the CinemaCon crowd depicted a sci-fi romance that will seemingly live up to the term ‘beautiful’ in its title. The trailer initially shows Margot Robbie’s Sarah and Colin Farrell’s David meet at some kind of party before departing ways. Later on, David is driving when his car GPS begins to talk to him and asks him if he wants to go on a great journey. After agreeing with the GPS, David picks up Sarah and the two go on a journey through their pasts by entering a series of doors. David is able to reexperience days from his time at high school and being told that the girl he loved didn’t love him back. Meanwhile, Sarah entered a door that led her to a more troubling time in her past when her mother was sick. The trailer was romantic, fantastical, and emotional, very much in keeping with Kogonda’s previous work.
Following the CinemaCon presentation, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has skyrocketed to be among the top of our most anticipated films of 2025.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey hits theaters on September 19, 2025.
GOAT

A decidedly different Sony Pictures release was up next. Director Tyree Dillihay came on stage to discuss the upcoming animated film GOAT. Releasing on February 13, 2026, the film is an underdog (or undergoat) story about a young goat named Will who competes against bigger animals in basketball.
GOAT is produced by NBA superstar Stephen Curry, who recorded a message that was played to the CinemaCon crowd. Curry mirrored director Dillihay in similarly discussing the underdog attributes of their upcoming feature.

Surprisingly, no footage of GOAT was shown to the crowd.
Days Gone

Resident Evil wasn’t the only video game adaptation discussed during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation. Based on the game developed by Bend Studio, the post-apocalyptic thriller Days Gone begins filming in April 2025. The cast was not revealed, although Sam Heughan (Outlander) was previously reported to be circling the movie.
I Know What You Did Last Summer

One of the most anticipated movies of summer 2025 was up next for Sony. The fourth movie in the slasher franchise, I Know What You Did Last Summer hits theaters on July 18, 2025.
A first trailer for the new film was shown to the CinemaCon crowd. The trailer begins with Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks) and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) as a young couple having a quaint evening at home. Cline’s character runs a bubble bath and puts headphones on as she listens to a calming audio. Meanwhile, Chavez’ character is downstairs and impaled by a masked killer.
The trailer continues and shows flashbacks to Cline, Chavez, and others in a car seemingly moments after unintentionally running into someone, just like how the original film begins. Freddie Prinze Jr. appears, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original films. Ray warns of the dangers that have occurred when a similar incident occurred, before the camera pans to the tombstone of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Helen Shivers (a character who met her demise in the 1997 original).

Lots of quick cuts of young adults screaming and a hook-wielding killer lurking follow before Jennifer Love Hewitt appears. Reprising her role as Julie James from the original films, Hewitt asks Cline’s character, “I have one question. What did you do last summer?” A bit on the nose? Yes. But did it deliver a good laugh? Absolutely.
The tone of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer seems to be similar to the original, perhaps leaning a tad darker. There wasn’t anything particularly unique in the trailer to suggest that the new film has novelty to justify its existence as a legacy sequel, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for this one.
I Know What You Did Last Summer hits theaters on July 18, 2025.
Karate Kid: Legends

Sony Pictures’ next theatrical release is Karate Kid: Legends, which hits theaters on May 30, 2025. Stars Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang came on stage to discuss the new film (and make a joke about how Macchio is using Wang’s training as an excuse to get him to do things for him).
Macchio and Wang (who does all of his own stunts in the film) presented three scenes from Karate Kid: Legends, in addition to a new trailer.
The first scene shows Wang’s character Li Fong come home to a dark apartment only to be assaulted by Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han. Mr. Han and Li Fong engage in an intricate duel that is eventually interrupted when Li Fong’s mother (played by Ming-Na Wen) steps in.

The second scene shows Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han meet for the first time. Mr. Han looks fondly at a picture of Mr. Miyagi before detailing his friendship with the legend. Mr. Han tries to convince Daniel LaRusso to come to New York City to help train a new fighter. Daniel refuses, but Mr. Han won’t take no for answer.
After a third scene, Macchio and Wang presented a new trailer for the film, which was also released to the public and can be seen below.

Karate Kid Legends hits theaters on May 30, 2025.
The Legend of Zelda

The live-action The Legend of Zelda was confirmed to hit theaters on March 26, 2027. Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Maze Runner, will direct the film.
Casting details regarding who will play Link and Princess Zelda remain a mystery.
The Legend of Zelda hits theaters on March 26, 2027.
Starship Troopers

A reimagining of Starship Troopers is coming soon from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. It seems as if Blomkamp’s take will be a return to the source material (i.e., the classic sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein), rather a remake of the satirized version made by Paul Verhoeven in 1997.
Jumanji 4

A new Jumanji movie will hit theaters Christmas 2026. Jake Kasdan, who directed Jumanji and Jumanji: The Next Level, will return to direct, although whether the cast from those movies (i.e., Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan) returns is up in the air.
Grand Gear

A new film coming soon from Sony Pictures titled Grand Gear will be produced by JJ Abrams and directed by Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki. Not much else is known of the film, but the combo of Abrams and Yamazaki has us intrigued.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle

Sony Pictures made it clear that they are prioritizing anime more than ever, and there is no better example of that than Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle. A montage of enthusiastic Demon Slayer fans was played to the CinemaCon, in addition to some footage from the new film.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle hits U.S. theaters in September 2026.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson were accompanied by producer and co-writer Phil Lord to discuss the highly anticipated third Spider-Verse film.
Right off the bat, the team addressed why the film won’t release until 2027. “We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back, We needed to take the time to make it right.”
Beyond the Spider-Verse was described as “a massive finale for the trilogy…bigger and bolder than the previous two” by producer Phil Lord.
The filmmakers also said that Beyond the Spider-Verse will feature “entirely new animation” and “push the medium further than ever before.”
Beyond the Spider-Verse “picks up seconds after” Across the Spider-Verse with Miles as a fugitive on the run from every Spider in the multiverse. “Gwen and his other friends may or may not be enough to help him save the family that’s been the leading part of the entire system,” Lord added.
Early footage from Beyond the Spider-Verse showed Miles fighting with The Spot, struggling with the possible death of his father, and more. Several pictures from the new film can be seen below….

Given CinemaCon is the world’s greatest celebration of the moviegoing experience, Phil Lord fittingly said, “We are prepping this movie especially for your large format screens. It looks insane.”
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 4, 2027.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The penultimate film discussed during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation was the fourth Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Helming the follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton, who was on stage at CinemaCon to discuss the new film.

“To say that it’s an honor to be standing on this stage is a pretty big understatement,” Cretton said.
Cretton spoke of his love for Peter Parker as a character, in particular his sense of humor and insecurities. He described the new Spider-Man film as “a ride we haven’t really seen before.”
In a touching and humorous moment, Cretton revealed that his son’s first word was Spider-Man and that he had the comic book Spider-Man: Most Wanted around as he prepped for his movie.
Peter Parker himself Tom Holland then swung in with a video for the CinemaCon crowd as he film Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in Europe. Holland announced that the movie is titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day and previewed that the film is a “fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say,” Holland remarked.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins filming this summer and hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
The Beatles

Sony Pictures definitely left their biggest reveal for last.
Sam Mendes arrived on stage to discuss his plans to adapt the story of The Beatles. Consistent with rumors circulating about the project, Mendes revealed that four movies will be made about the group, each told “from the distinct perspective of one of the guys.” Mendes elaborated, “Together, all four films will tell the story of the greatest band in history.”
Astoundingly, Mendes announced that all four The Beatles movies will hit theaters in April 2028. Mendes described this as “the first bingeable theatrical experience.”

That wasn’t everything about the fab four though. Sony Pictures closed out their presentation by bringing out the cast of their new The Beatles films.
Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) will play Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) will play John Lennon. Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) will play Ringo Starr. Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) will play George Harrison.
The four men, all dressed in black, exited the stage after doing the iconic Beatles bow to the CinemaCon crowd. The perfect end to a great presentation from Sony.
