Godzilla stomped into Caesar’s Palace to kick off Tuesday’s host of CinemaCon 2026 festivities.
Academy Award winning filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki took the stage in The Dolby Colosseum to talk about Godzilla Minus Zero, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One from 2023.
As he thanked exhibitors for the role they played in the financial success of Godzilla Minus One, Yamazaki proclaimed, “Godzilla becomes Godzilla when experienced in the theater.”
Yamazaki went on to reveal that Godzilla Minus Zero will be the first Japanese film in history to be filmed and presented in IMAX.
Regarding the story, Yamazaki confirmed that the film is a “direct sequel” to Godzilla Minus One and will continue to follow the Shikishima family.
“In this new film, an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family,” Yamazaki added. “When faced with an overwhelming and inescapable force, how do people fight back? The journey from Minus to Zero will not be an easy one.”
Yamazaki then presented behind-the-scenes footage from the film, which showcased the incredible practical sets. The director can be seen using a Godzilla action figure as a reference while on set. IMAX cameras and IMAX camera operators can also be spotted in the footage.
Brief footage from Godzilla Minus Zero followed the behind-the-scenes reel. The footage confirmed that the movie takes place in 1949. The final moment of the footage showed Godzilla slowly and ominously walking past the Statue of Liberty, a shot that elicited huge cheers from the CinemaCon crowd.
Godzilla Minus Zero is in theaters on November 6, 2026.
