Recently appointed Co-President of Lucasfilm Dave Filoni made an appearance during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at this year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Expo to preview the highly anticipated sophomore season of Ahsoka.
Confirmed to premiere January 20 on Disney+, Ahsoka Season 2 will continue to follow Ahsoka and her allies as she fends off Grand Admiral Thrawn’s attempts to restart the Empire and overthrow the fledgling New Republic.
To talk about Season 2, Filoni was joined by series stars Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano), Eman Esfandi (Ezra Bridger), and Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker).
“This season is massive,” explained Dawson. The stakes are higher, the battles are bigger… and the threat of Thrawn looms large for Ahsoka, her crew, and the entire galaxy.”

Christensen explained how Anakin will play a more prominent role in Season 2. “Anakin continues to advise Ahsoka,” the Chosen One remarked. “He challenges her and pushes her to answer the most important question in her life: Are you or are you not a Jedi?”
Esfandi, meanwhile, excitedly discussed Ezra’s role in the upcoming season. “Ezra is reunited with his Rebels family, and is now fighting for the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant.”
The first trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 was presented at D23 and simultaneously released to the public. Check out the trailer below and keep reading for a breakdown of all of its Easter Eggs and hidden details….

The trailer begins with voiceover from Hayden Christensen. “Tell me, Ahsoka,” Anakin calmly says. “What troubles you?”
The footage begins in a snowy forest and depicts a young Ahsoka Tano (once again played by Ariana Greenblatt) wearing a pink/red winter jacket akin to the one she wore in Season 4 of The Clone Wars.
Following Ahsoka in the forest is Anakin Skywalker, wearing the blue winter jacket he wore in Season 1 of The Clone Wars. Their interaction is a flashback to some point during the Clone Wars.
On the ground of the snowy forest lays the dead body of a Clone Trooper wearing Phase I armor.

Anakin and Ahsoka then face off against an enemy wielding a double-bladed green lightsaber. He is human, has markings around his eyes, and seems to be well trained in the art of lightsaber combat.

“I’m always walking by your side,” the Force ghost of Anakin tells Ahsoka. Based on the trailer, it seems like Anakin will feature in both flashbacks to the Clone Wars and as a prominent Force ghost guiding Ahsoka in her conflict against Thrawn.
The trailer features the first live-action look at Dathomir, the homeworld of Darth Maul and Asajj Ventress. Season 1 concluded with Grand Admiral Thrawn returning to the known galaxy and setting up shop on Dathomir.

Thrawn is heard making a message to the galaxy announcing his return. Presumably, this will be to strike fear into the hearts and minds of people who have grown accustomed to an Empire-less galaxy.
Interestingly, Thrawn declares war on “the Rebel Alliance,” rather than the New Republic. This is probably an arbitrary distinction, but it’s nonetheless fascinating to see the Grand Admiral not acknowledge the New Republic as a full-fledged government and, instead, continuing to brand them as a group of rebels.

The trailer confirms that Hamato Xiano will return in Season 2. In the above shot, he is joined by Ezra Bridger and a new look Hera Syndulla.
The footage then shows a group of New Republic soldiers clashing with a duo of terrifying Nightsisters aboard a cruiser. The New Republic soldiers are no match for the Magick-wielding assassins.

As Ahsoka explains that she had a vision of a war, the first look at Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren is shown. Sabine sports a cool new haircut in Season 2.

Ahsoka and Sabine approach a large gray rock structure that seems to have symbols resembling the World Between Worlds.

Arguably the trailer’s most interesting moment comes in the form of a line Anakin drops. “Baylan claimed to have knowledge of a power. One that could end wars.” Anakin is seemingly talking about the Mortis Gods here, powerful Force entities that he encountered during the Clone Wars. Baylan Skoll was confirmed to be in pursuit of the power possessed by the Mortis Gods in the finale of Season 1. This trailer suggests the Mortis Gods will play an even bigger role this season. Could we also see Abeloth….?

The sassiest droid in the galaxy (a.k.a. Chopper) pops up for a brief moment in the show. He is once again voiced by Dave Filoni.

Zeb was notably the only absent member of the Rebels family in Ahsoka Season 1. The new trailer confirms that (thank the Force) the galaxy’s most endearing found family are reunited. Zeb can be seen giving Ezra, essentially his little brother, a big hug below.

Ahsoka recalls the events of “The Wrong Jedi” arc from The Clone Wars. “A long time ago, I walked away from the Jedi,” she says.
Captain Enoch pops up in the trailer as he duels Ezra Bridger with some kind of Magick sword.

Below is the clearest look at Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati in the new season.

Also returning is Huyang, who now wields four yellow lightsabers in a duel against Shin Hati.

The footage concludes with Anakin asking Ahsoka, “Are you a Jedi or not?” Based on the trailer and Christensen’s comments during the presentation, it seems as if Ahsoka’s overarching arc in Season 2 will revolve around whether she reclaims the label of a Jedi or forges a unique identity of her own.
Official poster art for Ahsoka Season 2 was revealed at D23 2026.
