The X-Files may return under new creative leadership, as recently announced by series creator Chris Carter. In a chat with Gloria Macarenko on her show On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko, Carter teased that Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler will lead a new version of The X-Files.
“I just spoke to a young man,” Carter said. “Ryan Coogler…who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”

This news comes as a shock after The X-Files wrapped up in its 11th season five years ago. Series star Gillian Anderson appears to be disinterested in a return, while Fox Mulder himself David Duchovony is open to another investigation into the paranormal.
It’s possible that Carter’s mention of a “diverse cast” indicates that The X-Files will move on from Scully and Mulder, although details are unclear as of now. Check out The HoloFiles‘ ranking of the best episodes of the series below.
