10 Unresolved ‘Star Wars’ Plot Points That Need To Be Followed Up On

By George & Josh Bate

star wars unresolved

From the franchise’s earliest roots, Star Wars has never shied away from leaving fans tantalizing teases for what’s to come. The Empire Strikes Back, for instance, infamously concluded with the jaw-dropping reveal that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and saw Han Solo kidnapped by Jabba the Hutt. Thankfully, these plot points were followed up on in Return of the Jedi, but the same can’t be said for every tease tagging on at the end of Star Wars stories.

Here are 10 unresolved plot points across the Star Wars galaxy that need to be followed up on in a future project, but, as of now, have not been explored further….

Cobb Vanth has been swimming in the bacta tank for some time now

star wars unresolved

The post-credits scene of The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth survived the events of the series, but it’s been over three years now since the Marshal of Mos Pelgo has appeared in a Star Wars project.

In a recent interview with The Ringerverse, Olyphant said that he has urged Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to bring back the character. “I am guilty of sending Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni a text that said just a reminder neither me nor Cobb Vanth is dead,” Olyphant said. “Just a friendly reminder it’s been 1360 days since people have seen Cobb Vanth”

How should this plot point be resolved? Well, Cobb Vanth seems like a natural inclusion in a variety of stories. He could make a cameo appearance in The Mandalorian and Grogu, if the upcoming film sees the iconic father-son duo return to Tatooine. Vanth could also appear in Ahsoka Season 2 given that series takes place during the same slice of the Star Wars timeline. There’s also a chance that The Book of Boba Fett finally gets a second season, at which point one would think Vanth is a natural inclusion.

What’s next for Qimir, Osha, and Plagueis?

star wars unresolved

The Acolyte concluded on quite the cliffhanger as Osha embraced the dark side to align with Qimir, while Darth Plagueis lurked in the shadows from the distance. Unfortunately, the Leslye Headland-created series was canceled before we could find out what happens next to all of these characters.

How should this plot point be resolved? The most obvious answer is a revival of The Acolyte, although the divisiveness surrounding the series casts that into doubt. What seems more likely is a spin-off series of sorts that reorients the series away from Osha and Qimir specifically and pivots toward the rise of the Sith in the era before The Phantom Menace. Qimir and Osha could obviously still play major roles in the series, but this avenue would allow Lucasfilm to do a slight rebrand to distance itself from The Acolyte name.

Asajj Ventress’s next adventure awaits….

star wars unresolved

Asajj Ventress and her new padawan Lyco Strata ride off into the sunset at the end of their episodes in Tales of the Underworld. It’s hard to not view those three episodes as the backdoor pilot for an Asajj Ventress solo series. We know eventually that Ventress appears in The Bad Batch Season 3, but there’s still plenty of years before and after that appearance for Lucasfilm to fill out.

How should this plot point be resolved? Again, an Asajj Ventress-centric animated series seems to be the natural way to go here. Voice actress Nika Futterman even told StarWars.com, “Let’s do it, baby. It seems that everybody loves her and wants more.”

If the solo series doesn’t pan out, Ventress would seem to be a good fit in the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord series. Given her association with Quinlan Vos and his association with The Hidden Path, we could even see her appear in live-action if Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is ever made.

Omega the Rebel?

star wars unresolved

The Bad Batch series epilogue skipped forward a number of years to show Omega all grown up and ready to fight a battle of her own (presumably against the Empire). But, as of now, we have yet to see Omega again. The fan-favorite character voiced by Michelle Ang seems like a no-brainer to return in a future Star Wars story given how lovable, kind, and interesting Omega is.

How should this plot point be resolved? We’d love to see a Bad Batch sequel series focused on Omega, in which the original Clone Force 99 also make small appearances. Even further out there though is a possibility of Omega making her live-action debut in a The Book of Boba Fett Season 2. Boba Fett and Omega are siblings after all and it would certainly be interesting to see the two team up.

Maul the Crime Lord

star wars unresolved

Solo: A Star Wars Story was intended to launch a trilogy of films that, unfortunatley, never came to fruition. Arguably the Ron Howard-helmed film’s most intriguing element was the re-introduction of Maul into the fold, once again played by Ray Park and voiced by Sam Witwer. An animated series Maul: Shadow Lord is in development that will follow Maul and his attempts to ascend to the apex of the criminal underworld after the events of Revenge of the Sith, but it’s unclear if that series will ever catch up to where Maul left off in Solo.

How should this plot point be resolved? The possibility of a Solo 2 seems to have came and went at this point. While Maul’s criminal ventures will be explored in next year’s Maul: Shadow Lord, if the series doesn’t catch up to the events of Solo, we could see an interesting novel or even comic series that more closely follows Maul, Q’ira, and Crimson Dawn, which could leave up nicely to War of the Bounty Hunters and also explain how Maul loses control of Crimson Dawn and becomes the recluse we see in Star Wars Rebels.

Jedi Knight Finn

star wars unresolved

Much has been made of Finn’s character in the sequel trilogy, with actor John Boyega unafraid to voice his own critiques of his stormtrooper-turned-rebel’s journey. The Rise of Skywalker confirmed that Finn is Force sensitive, but didn’t really do anything with this reveal, despite the fact that J.J. Abrams planting the roots for Finn to be Force sensitive all the way back in The Force Awakens.

How should this plot point be resolved? For us, Finn has to feature in the upcoming New Jedi Order movie, which sees Daisy Ridley return as Rey Skywalker. Finn and Rey’s arcs are inextricably linked together, with a possible romance even on the cards at one point. It would feel awkward if Rey were to return, but Finn doesn’t.

Vel’s rebellion hasn’t ended yet

star wars unresolved

Vel survived the events of Andor, but it’s unclear where her story goes from there. Her commitment to the Rebellion is undoubted and it makes sense that she would continue to fight the Empire alongside her sister Mon Mothma.

How should this plot point be resolved? Tony Gilroy voiced interest in a Nazi hunters-style series focusing on Vel and Kleya hunting after former Imperials following the Empire’s defeat in Return of the Jedi. This idea also opens the door for Dedra Meero to return in a Hannibal Lector-esque capacity, helping Vel and Kleya from behind bars.

Jod Na Nawood (also known as Crimson Jack, Dash Zentin, Professor Umiam Gorelox, Emissary, Jodwick Zank, or the “Mad” Captain Silvo), please return

star wars unresolved

Jude Law’s Force sensitive character from Skeleton Crew was one of the series’ most interesting elements. The eighth and final episode of the series opened the door for more to come from Jod, who lands in a decidedly murky moral space come the end. With more to learn about his origins and lack of clarity as to where he goes from here, a follow-up adventure for Jod could be a great watch.

How should this plot point be resolved? Skeleton Crew Season 2 please. Nothing has been announced, although Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have spoken about ideas they have for a second season that would see Wim, Neel, KB, and Fern grow up a bit. If Season 2 is eventually made, Jod’s re-introduction into the fold would seem natural.

Jannah Calrissian?

star wars unresolved

Another thread left unanswered in The Rise of Skywalker is the question of Jannah’s parentage and her possible relationship to Lando Calrissian. The end of Episode IX saw the two have a touching exchange in which Jannah asks Lando where he’s from. When asked herself, Jannah tells Lando that she doesn’t know. But Lando offers to help her out. However, it’s been six years and there’s been no movement on this front. The novel Shadow of the Sith showed Lando hunting down his lost daughter, but the daughter was never confirmed to be Jannah. It seems about time for Jannah and Lando’s daughter/father relationship to be confirmed.

How should this plot point be resolved? With Star Wars: Starfighter, New Jedi Order, and Simon Kinberg’s upcoming movies all taking place after The Rise of Skywalker, there’s ample opportunities for Jannah and Lando’s story to continue. If Kinberg’s movies are indeed Episodes X-XIII, as has been rumored, then that would seem to be the perfect place to reintroduce Jannah and Lando.

“Big shot gangster putting together a crew”

star wars unresolved

The end of Solo: A Star Wars Story also saw Han Solo and Chewbacca journey off in the Falcon for a mission with “a big shot gangster.” It’s pretty obvious the gangster in question is Jabba the Hutt, which would kick off a tumultuous relationship that goes all the way through to Return of the Jedi. However, as of now, this hasn’t been followed up on.

How should this plot point be resolved? Again, as a Solo 2 is increasingly unlikely, this story may be left to a comic or book to resolve. We certainly wouldn’t complain if that’s the case, although the idea of seeing Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo one more time would be great. Perhaps an animated sequel series or one-shot animated special showing Han’s first adventure with Jabba?
